Update
It went pretty good. Her eyes did change as she thought. She was given a sample pair of contacts that the doctor put in & took out for her eyes, he said that they fit perfect & they do seem to. But didn't try ona any other pairs. He made sure that my sister was going to help teach her to put them in & out, because he doesn't do that anymore. But he did not go over it with her, he gave us a hand out all about it though, that I must have left at the office...oops. We were not charged anything but our co-pay & insurance was charged the regular exam fee. My sister helped her get them in & out. This morning she was able to get them in without guidance first time with one eye & 3rd try the other. She is so excited to be able to see without glasses. I went ahead & ordered her a years supply from visiondirect.com which had the best price ($83.56) that I could find online for her brand (proclear)! I do feel like she should have a pair of glasses in her new Rx though for back up.
As far as getting glasses on my own..... he gave me that Rx for glasses as well, without me asking, but it didn't have all the info that Zenni Optical asks for. So I took out the little paper where I wrote what info I needed & asked if he could provide it so that we can get glasses online. He didn't like that! He told me it was a horrible idea & that he wouldn't provide me any more info than what he already had given me & that I was on my own. I explained that if I'm purchasing contacts that I can't also afford expensive glasses (his prices start at $100). He said I should go to Sears or JCPenny, even Wal-Mart if price was a concern, but highly advised me against getting them online. Said order your contacts online if you want, but please not glasses, they are different. Told me to be sure I go to a place that has a license from our state.
Well last year when I bought glasses from his office we had nothing but problems with them! I wish I spoke up, but I'm not one to argue I was already feeling bad that he was so against me ordering them online. The glasses that she got last year from his office were plastic frames. They called me when they were ready to pick up, I picked them up while she was at school & they never fit them to her face or told me that anything needed to be done. I've since heard that they should heat them & adjust if needed, at least check them on her & see how they fit! They cost $100 & one of the screws didn't hold so they had to put in a longer one & they scratched her lens when they were repairing it, the girls in the office gave me attitude when I pointed out the scratch. They replaced the lens that they scratched, but she has had the same problem with the screw loosening & the arm flopping. She barely wore those glasses, now the Rx has changed & frankly why should I pay them $100 for new frames when the service that they provided the first time was no better than what I could have done ordering on my own? And these are just backups to the contacts.
So I was just looking on Zenni & I believe that the only thing I need that I don't have is pupillary distance. Should I call & demand they give me the info, which should be in her chart, because he did measure yesterday. Or should I use the info that I found online to measure it myself? She already picked out a pair from Zenni, it would come to about $24 with shipping. Or I could take her to Walmart & get $38 frames (I see advertised on TV with a one year guarantee) I believe they will also measure for me? We have to drive about a 1/2 hour to a Walmart with a vision center though, to pick them out, to pick them up. So 2 hours in the car just to get the glasses, that is if she finds something in that price that she likes! So factor in gas too! WWYD???
