Tell me about geletin

That is the plain non jello kind. The pacakge says it has protien, but that it isn't a significant source. What does that mean? And what can I do to this stuff to eat it... what is it for? I am on a restricted diet and it has been suggested to me, but I dunno what to do with it.

Gelatin is an animal product. It is made by cooking/boiling down skin, connective tissue (cartilage, fascia - the white stuff surrounding meat) and bone. It is protein and it is used in cooking to thicken and gel foods - for example, it's used in Jell-O, jelly beans, marshmallows etc. A lot of bakeries use gelatin to thicken desserts - cream for cakes, mousses etc.

It may be produced from pork, so if your diet doesn't allow pork products beware. I believe there are pork-free gelatins available.

You can milk juice with it and make knox blocks ... going to find the recipe.
