First of all, I am aware that this is a phase that would arrive eventually
My 20 month old has starting whining, a lot, to get things. He knows how to ask nicely. Sometimes, when he wants an apple, he will go to the fridge and ask "baple?". But, more often than not, he now clings to my leg and whines "baaaaaaabbbbbbbllllllllllllllleeeeeee?????". It annoys me more than anything he has ever done.
I generally ask him to ask nicely, as in "You want an apple?", wait for him to ask in a good tone, and then say, "Please?", and he adds "beese" to the end. Then we get an apple. He's clinging to me, whining, and I kneel to his level and ask what he wants. If he has a request that he can say nicely, I honor it, if not, I let him know what I'm doing and that he's welcome to help, etc.
I am tempted to simply ignore the whining requests, but I know it's not developmentally appropriate to expect him to connect my ignoring to his tone.
Any suggestions??? This is WAAAAAAY worse than biting while nursing! That was an easy fix!
