it cant be anything fungal, because it cleared up crazy fast using only sposies, and it hasnt come back. i think im trying to use too much stuff on them. everyones wash routine is r eally simple, and i use bac out, detergent and then sometimes vinegar. but i started using more of each the first two when she got the rash, thinking it would help

We have used: Nature Clean liquid, Charlie's, Nature Clean powder and are now using Tide Free!!

DD had terrible yeast rash problems until we switched. The other ones just weren't getting them clean enough, IMO. We also use the full amount. Also make sure your washer uses HOT water when it fills up (our didn't - we didn't find this out until recently) and we also crank the water heater when we do our washes.

ditto, chattyprincess.

I am thinking about getting the wonderwash, too. Does anyone have feedback?

CP-what diapers are you looking at that wonderwash is recommended for? I was thinking it would be good for prefolds and flats.

This is totally counter-intuitive, but I started using bleach every couple of washes, and my DD never had another cloth diaper rash. We used All Free and Clear and occasional bleach with plenty of rinsing. I stopped using any other additives (tea tree, vinegar, etc.) for the reason you mentioned - too much stuff potentially causing problems.

And Charlies soap was horrible for us - flaming red bottom.

I use arm and hammer free and clear for sensitive skin on the diapers. If my baby got a rash I would assume it was either from keeping the diaper on too long (since cloth diapers tend to be wetter against baby's skin than sposies) or from something I ate (he breastfeeds).

If that detergent wasnt working for me I might switch to something like maggies soap nuts.

We used Arm and Hammer sensitive briefly but it took forever to rinse and was just not working. He got rashes from it too.

We now use Crunchy Clean because the reviews were great and it's cheap. It works really well! I use it on diapers and regular clothes. I did find that one of their scent mixtures, Apple Toffee I think caused a rash for me. But that's the only scent that has.

Our wash routine is rinse, hot wash on inserts (Flip and Gro baby diapers), rinse. Then for shells rinse, warm wash, rinse.

With arm and hammer it was like that, but with 2 to 3 additional wash cycles with no soap just to get the soap out. I hated it.

I'd suggest that if you use Crunchy Clean use an EO scented one since it's essential oil or go for non scented first. I went with just Tulip scented first and my son got a rash, but it cleared up so I don't think it was the detergent, we still use it.

Tide Free here, occasionally use some vinegar.

We tried a few more natural ones, but the diapers were dingy and stinky

I've used regular Tide 2X HE, and All F&C HE. They both work but I think the Tide is t more harsh and tends to leave more build up as we would have *major* stink issues with our BumGenius and Blueberry Minky OS. When using the Tide I would often still need to do a vinegar rinse and bleach rinse to get the stink out. With the All F&C I find I dont need to do the bleach and vinegar rinses, and only put in a capful of bleach about once every month on my microfiber inserts. Ive never tried any of the other "green" brands becuz they are too expensive for us and with 7 kids I do a *ton* of laundry and need the biggest bang for my buck.
I have a Maytag Neptune front loader and I run 2 cycles: the first a pre-wash on cold, then a regular wash on hot and an extra rinse on cold. For the 2nd cycle I do a prewash on hot, regular wash on hot and extra rinse on cold. If I need to put bleach in I do it on my last extra rinse cycle.
I was putting everything into the dryer but it seemed to "bake" the stink in, so instead I now have a clothes rack by the wood stove in cold weather and just pop stuff into the dryer for 5mins after its mostly dry so it doesnt get "crunchy". During spring/summer I line dry if I can.

I use two tablespoons of my homemade laundry soap (one cup grated castile soap, one cup borax, one cup washing soda, 1/4 cup oxyclean). I do a cold rinse, warm wash if the pockets are in (hot wash if it's just the fitteds and DSQ AIO's), cold rinse. Approximately once a month, I use about two teaspoons of bleach. Everything looks and smells clean.

I strictly avoid recommending detergent as what might work in my HE front loader here with my Iron Range hard water and my child with relatively insensitive skin, might not work for someone else. There are just too many variables.

That being said, I really enjoyed this article in the Wall Street Journal. It was all about detergent and our collective propensity to use way too much and the problems that can cause. In fact, in many cases, you don't really need to use any at all as the agitation from the machine should be sufficient to clean the diapers. Here is a link to the article. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...214910714.html

Good luck on your hunt!

I use Green Mountain Baby Free and Clear HE on diapers and baby clothes. I tried Rockin Green (hard water formula) for a couple of months, and ended up with horribly stinky, foul diapers. So, obviously, I'm back to GM. I now add extra water and Calgon to the wash load (have a front loader), and use RLR once a month to keep the stinkies at bay, because that was just nasty. I live in the southwest and have hard water.

I'd love to try Crunchy Clean, but after the disaster of Rockin Green, I'm a bit hesistant to waste money.
