Is 4-H in your area lose funding?

I don't know if this is the right folder to post or not. However, I finally got around to trying to find out more info about getting my kindergartener into cloverbuds, b/c I saw an ad in the paper for cloverbuds for the next county over. Just got off of the phone and was told that they were not accepting any new members in out county and to call back in a few wks. I asked why I needed to call back in a few wks, b/c that was a new registration period? And the lady just told me that basically they are losing their funding (after I had just read in the paper that their funding was ok?!?!), so they don't know if they will have 4H anymore.

I am really surprised. 4H has been around for a long time. Is this something that is happening in a lot of communities?

I would cross-post this in Off the Grid/Country Living, I bet someone there would know.

It seems to be doing ok here, which surprises me a bit because the state budget is so awful. But, I used to be a 4-H leader and on the county leadership committee for my project (cats) and our project was self-funded for most of our activities (which were about 3 cat shows and 3 or 4 workshops per year), so maybe they are just powering along...

FWIW, for the PP, 4-H is very strong in many urban/suburban areas and involves many non-animal activites like computers, motorcycles, cats, and dogs.

4-H is going along just fine here.
