6 months & not babbling at all

My baby girl will be 6 months in 2 days and hasn't babbled at all. She makes noises and squeals and sometimes says ahhh or guh but that's it. The rest of her development seems to be right on track (she smiles at us, laughs, looks for us, good eye contact, etc). The reason I'm concerned is because my 8 year old son has autism and he never babbled (he made noises/squeals, just no babbling until he started talking at 3). I have no clue what's typical as far as language development. Any thoughts for this worried momma? Thanks!

I don't know what average is, but I know my 11 month old didn't say his first English syllable (mum-mum) until around 6 and a half months old.

DD was determined to stand and crawl at that age. She didn't work on talking until later.

My first son didnt babble until around 12-18 months. But he did everything your daughter is doing at 6 months. Now, I have a hard time shutting him up somedays. DS2 is the cmplete opposite, and has been since he found his voice at 4 months. Every child is different.

My DS only said bababa, papapa and gagaga at that age (and mamama when he was crying). But he would just repeat those over and over. He just started babbling last week, at 7.5 months old. All of a sudden I'm hearing all kinds of other sounds, and he's stringing them together and playing with his voice. This is the first time he has really "babbled" like that though, other than squeals and the repetitive syllables that he really liked before. It's hard not to compare your baby with your previous baby and with other people's babies, but I would try not to worry until you have a reason to!

I believe the range for babbling is 5-9 months so she still is in the range. 6 months is on the early side of babbling.

My DS just turned 7 months a few days ago, and doesn't do a lot of babbling either. Lots of squealing, shrieking and laughing though. I have felt concerned recently, but am trying not to impose my own tendency to worry onto him. I think what others have said is true, every child is different, and if they are working on other "milestones", perhaps the babbling is put on the back burner. I also just read about The Einstein Syndrome, which suggests that late talkers are actually geniuses !
