asperger's and sensory *seeking*?

How common is this?

As a teacher, most of the kids with Asperger's that I've worked with have been sensory avoidant/hypersensitive. Ds is overwhelmingly a sensory seeker, so I'm curious how many kids out there are in the same boat.

Right now, ds has a diagnosis of ADHD. But I'm seeing more and more evidence that perhaps he has Asperger's, and am looking at getting him assessed.

TIA

My older son's diagnosis is actually high-functioning autism, but it would be Asperger's if not for his speech delay. He's a major sensory-seeker. And he shows signs of having ADHD in addition to that. Exhausting!

My son doesn't have a definite dx - most recent is ADHD/SPD. However, one evaluator said he may have Asperger's. He is a major sensory seeker. He doesn't really "fit" into any one dx and has been given many different dx - HFA/Asperger's, SPD, ADHD, NVLD and receptive/expressive language disorder. His biggest challenge at the moment is his overwhelming need to move, crash, jump, etc. Virtually ALL his play revolves around gross motor movement. He definitely has some Asperger's traits - but not the overwhelming obsessions or need for sameness/routine as I posted about recently. However, if "stimming" or constant movement counts as his obsession, then I would say he could have Asperger's (despite a speech delay).

i have a sensory seeking AND avoiding dd with asperger's. the party never stops! as my grandma (not known for her kindness or tact) recently said, "that girl has 'go juice' up her ass!" it was so outrageous, it was almost funny. but, yes, i think especially in girls, many are misdiagnosed as being hyperactive, manic, etc., as opposed to having AS.

I have a seeking and avoiding aspie. I am not sure you can catergorize such behavior to one type of ASd or another. It's a spectrum kwim?
