opinions ? Virus or bacteria ? Second opinion ?

Anyhow on Thursday afternoon my boy ended up with a fever it only hit 102 one time but mostly stayed in the 101 for up til saturda at 6:53 pm.

He had the chills and irritablity with the fever at nite . Before he ended up getting the fever he had the occassional cough hence the reason I sent to get him check out by school nurse on thursday who said he was healthy to have him come down with a fever a few hrs later after getting checked.

So then he was hyperactive during his fever and running around , talking up a storm, shouting etc .

So anyhow his fever broke and then he had started to get this worse sounding cough . The cough was really worse sounding so then I took him on Monday morning right away .

Doctor said lungs clear, fluid in middle ear , lymph glands are pretty swollen but didn't prescribe antibiotics because he wasn't complaining of ear pain or throat pain . He did have a low grade temp of 99.2 then .

She said his lungs were clear and that there is a 3 wk viral bug going around that has the fever first in some , then there is the cough that will sound worse for up to 3-4 days it will sound pretty bad then it will get better .

He's been with this sickness for almost a week now. So I'm trying to figure out which days are the worse day of cough first I thought sunday , monday and tuesday are pretty bad coughing epsiodes.

So then monday nite and tonight sounded pretty bad . he was even more frequently coughing during the day today than he was yesterday .

Now his forehead is feeling hot and he is having a low grade fever temp in the 99.2-99.5

So if a doctor says he doesn't have bacterial but doesn't do a 'strep test because he wasn't complaining of his throat hurting or complaining of ear ache even though he has fluid in his ears.

Could his issue be caused by an ear infection because on thursday the nurse said his ear was inflamed a few days later he has fluid in it .

So if he has a possible undiagnosed ear or throat infection what would be the natural treatment for them ?

Ear infection will pass in time. Strep I'd do prescription antibiotics if it were my kid.

For natural antibiotics we use P73 Oil of Oregano (only that brand and it's horrible tasting) or garlic. But natural antibiotics have all the side effects of prescription ones in terms of killing off good bacteria. So I only do it when we really need it and without a known infection I wouldn't for my child.

I took him back in to the see the doctor and his temp was 101.4 with a very swollen ear , swollen tonsils, coughing still that has him lacking oxygen his oxygen level is at 94 .

Streph was negative but with a coming back fever the doctor decided to rx antibiotics because he was miserable, had an obvious ear infection. Possible some tonsils issues too but not a streph issue so he's on amoxicillin .

The previous doctors wanted to wait out on his ear and he ends up this sick who knows if its from his ear or something else but she said his ear looked bad and lymph glands were really swollen around the neck.

Sounds like mommy instinct was right on!

Don't forget to give him probiotics three hours after every dose of antibiotic. We use culturelle for antibiotics. If you can get something containing s. boulardi that is fantastic with antibiotics.
