They are having me come back for another U/S

I am 20 wks, and had my ultrasound yesterday. They said the kidneys, bladder everything looked very good and visible, but not the heart. They couldn't get a good eye on it...That has made me more nervous than I had been (very anxious this pregnancy.) Has anyone had this happen??

earthmommy, this happens so often... it's probably no cause for worry, they just want to be sure. This happened to me when I had my first scan. The heart is difficult to visualize on u/s for some techs and they just want to be sure. My babe's heart is just fine, even when they first told me it maybe wasn't. When do you go for another?

This happened with my 20 wk u/s too except they couldn't see his face properly. They just like to be sure and double check. I wouldn try not to be worried.
My Dr./MW ended up forgetting to schedule it again and I went without the follow-up u/s which was ok with me. I felt that he was fine. He was

of all the reasons they have women come back for second u/s, getting a better look at the heart is #1. according to my peri and pediatric cardiologist it is hard to get a good view of the heart until 26 weeks, which is when they schedule fetal echocardiograms.at 18-20 weeks the baby really needs to be in a perfect or close to perfect position to visualize all 4 chambers and the septums well not to mention other structures like the aortic arch, pulmonary vein etc...

This happened to me during my first pg with my twins. After several u/s they thought there was something wrong with my dd's heart, but it turned out to be perfect. Hope that all is well for you too.

I go back on the 16th of Feb. I'm excited for another ultrasound but don't like the fear it gave me. Thank you all for settling me down a bit. Its hard when they say the heart looks good, then bring you back because they need to see the heart again...ummmm ok. I'm guessing the tech saw differently than the MD or the baby moved and made it hard. Keep ya informed

This same thing happened to me twice with both of my first 2 pregnancies. I always had to come back for them to check on some vital organ, cause baby would not cooperate. No worries mama

Hi Mama,

At my 20 week scan the perinatologist said my little girl's stomach bubble was very small. He told me not to worry but asked that I have a follow-up ultrasound a week later. I was worried too but the follow-up showed her stomach looking just fine.

Being a first-timer, all this is very new to me but I'm rapidly learning that ultrasound is not an exact science and our rapidly growing, moving kiddos don't always cooperate when it comes to getting good looks at their insides. I'm willing to bet your little one's heart is fine, they just need to catch him or her in a better position to see it. Please try not to worry. Best wishes!!!

I am in exactly the asme boat. All looked fine but they good not get a good shot of the heart or palate and she would not budge. I go back early Feb. We can worry together...

really, don't worry. They couldn't get a good look at my baby's heart, either, so they're going to look again in a few weeks. I figure, if they're even telling US not to worry, you really shouldn't!

We had the same issue at my ultrasound yesterday, so we'll go back in 4-6 weeks to check the heart out again. I'm not worried though, because I know the issue is the baby is just too small right now.

With my first they wanted a 2nd ultrasound to see her face more clearly. I was told not to worry that follow up ultrasounds are very routine. They just "need to rule out cleft pallet". So of course for two weeks I was obsessed with 'cleft pallet'. I cried and cried. My husband tried desperately to reassure me. Blah to worrying. She was fine, beautiful in fact.

With my sister's 4th she was told they couldn't find her babies right arm. She had to go to a specialist a few weeks later. My sister was told there was probably nothing to worry about. She tried to keep herself from worrying at the same time she read everything the internet offered on amniotic banding. Her follow up was clear, and her baby is perfectly healthy, fully intact.

When it comes down to it 'rational thinking' doesn't always go hand in hand with needing a follow up ultra sound. Give yourself lots of room to breath, relax, and if you need to worry a little bit. But remember that odds are on your side. In a few weeks you'll be able to see your precious little one again, and that is always a good thing!
