I am looking into making some fitted diapers, and would LOVE some help. Im looking at the darling diaper pattern, Ive heard its great etc....
Im going to read the tagged thing about resources etc, but just wanted to aska few quick questions...
Im looking to "copy" stuff that is in B4's cause those work really well for my super soaker son... so I went to their site and read about the fabrics in it etc... so my one question is... for the soaker they list:

Outer organic bamboo fleece, hidden zorb, and inner Organic bamboo velour... so by outter, is that the part that touches baby, and inner is the bottom part??? TIA!!

Also in case I dont find it in the sticky info... any good tips on cheap place to buy all these fancy fabrics??? lol!

I need: zorb, organic bamboo fleece, organic bamboo velour

Im assuming the OBV is plain colored correct??? I might check into cotton velour as I like the colors, but can I use CV instead of OBV for the soaker? or is it not absorbant like OBV???

Thanks so much for any help!!!!

Hi Noelle:

I'm going to answer your questions in the order posted.

1. The outer is the outside of the diaper. It is the part outside, the part you touch when you pick the baby up. The inner is the part that touches baby's private parts.

2. You're not going to find quality fabric on the cheap, but you can get some deals OR you can recycle/upcycle old fabric and old garments. Some people make diapers from old t-shirts and worn towels and make all the diapers they need for under $75. Others use organic fabrics and spend in the hundreds. The point is, it's better for the baby, the environment and you, regardless of whether you are on the money-tight end of the spectrum, the end with plenty of money, or somewhere in the middle. I diapered my kids back in the early 80's with used diapers from the diaper service in town. I got a big bag of diapers with some marks on them, a bit of fraying, but still perfectly useable for far less than it would even cost for one weeks' service. It can be done on a budget just as well as if you have money to burn.

3. OBV is natural colored, as is OCV. Bamboo is more absorbent, although a combination of the two increases absorbency. Some moms are now using a hemp blend as well. Hemp is very thirsty and will absorb a lot of fluid more rapidly than cotton or bamboo fabrics. The reason for the bamboo usage is its sustainability - it is a rapidly growing plant that replaces itself more often than once a year - and it has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Colored or natural color, either is fine for the diaper inners or outers. The dyes are safe for baby skin and they don't wash out.

I hope this helps.
