Christian Mamas - need book recs for dad with cancer

My Dad has no faith and they are now saying he has less than a year to live. He has stage IV colon cancer with mets to the liver and lungs.

He's an intellectual sort, and had a bad experience with a pastor as a teen, and so doesn't have a lot of respect for church authority. Though it does seem that he respects authority of other types (well, not politicians).

I'm thinking he might go for a book written by a doctor, scientist, or the like that presents reasons for belief and good traditional teaching.

Hugs. I lost my Mom to Breast Cancer with Liver Mets.

Seeing that he really doen't have faith, I don't know that I would try to force anything on him at this point. It could very well anger him and you don't want that at this stage of disease.

I was a lost one a while back. I found a lot of help for myself by reading the Shack. It it seen as contriversial, but has a great message about having a personal relationship with God and Christ, but leaves out the Legalism that tore me away from the Church.

Thanks. He's actually shown some signs of opening up, that make me think he may be receptive. He's started listening to classical church choral music and was annointed by a priest friend recently, which is a huuuge step for him.

Anyway, I really feel that God wants me to try to talk to him about Him.

Oh yeah - I haven't read the shack yet, but I've heard it's wonderful and I'd like to try! (between chasing children, nursing & changing dipes, you know.)

I'm so sorry your father has been given such a poor prognosis.

I might suggest something by CS Lewis. He was an intellectual who converted from atheism to Christianity as an adult. He also lost his wife to cancer.
