Ring sling as baby gets bigger?

I need some advice! I have a variety of carriers, but my favorite is my Maya Wrap, especially for running errands and quick trips. The Moby takes so long to put on, and I don't want to bother with trying to get her on my back in the Ergo when I'm standing in the parking lot. I usually put her in the hip carry in the Maya.

But as she gets bigger, it is getting less comfortable (she's about 18 lbs now). I just find it uncomfortable to carry her on the front, unless she's more supported like in the Moby. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to keep using my Maya? I love it and don't want to give it up!

I still use my ring sling with DD who's nearly 23 months old and about the same weight. I don't put her on the front much anymore, just on the side, it works out better that way. Make sure you've got it tightened well enough and it should provide plenty of support.

We still use our ring sling for hip carries with ds who is 28+lbs - but I can't do it for much longer than 30min.

I agree about making sure it's snug, a well fitting ring sling should give you more support than a stretchy wrap like a moby.

Hip carry with a ring sling is about the only way I still carry DD.

Thanks mamas! I'll try to adjust the sling to be more comfortable, and hopefully keep using it. It's just so easy to use, I really love it.

if you really love using a ring sling but are finding the maya wrap isn't as supportive anymore, perhaps you'd be willing to try another ring sling? something like double layer linen, double layer silk, or a slingified wrap would probably be more comfortable and supportive for you. the actual fabric used in ring slings can make a huge difference in their level of support.

Thanks for that suggestion! I am reluctant to buy yet another carrier, since I have so many already! Maybe I can borrow or test-drive a different type of sling and see if it makes a difference though. That's something I hadn't thought of. And while I love the Maya that I have, the fabric does seem to slip through the rings and loosen while I'm wearing it sometimes.

I have a really thick cotton, like a good sturdy pair of khaki pants type material. It works great in a hip carry for my 24 lb toddler. I don't wear him for long periods in the ring sling, but for quick dashes in and out, like dropping DS off at preschool, it still works great.
