I think I sprung a leak. Do I have to do anything beyond checking temps once in a while?

DDCC

Both of my labors started like that. A leak, then gushes of fluid (which eventually settled down). With both of them I chose to stay home and monitor things like my temp/baby movement, because with both it took over 12 hours post-leak for me to start with contractions. Ds1/Ds2 were born about 24 hours after my leak. Ds3 was born a little over 18 hours after my leak.

...and yeah, when I headed into the hospital, I kinda kept that 12-hour no contractions timing issue to myself. From what they knew, my water had just broke.

With ds3 when it happened, I just put a towel in/through my undies (looked like a sumo wrestler) and sat down to quilt all night!

Best of luck, and have a great labor!

Oh yeah, no cervical exams and (I believe) no baths.

I believe everything was mentioned already but Make sure to get some Vitamin C.

baths are fine. the risk of infection comes more from bacteria being pushed up the canal, like during a vaginal exam. the vagina does not normally pull things up and in at rest, typically only during an orgasm.

Exciting. How's it going now?

I wouldn't worry about baths either. Afterall, I had planned to give birth in the water.

No baby

I'm actually at work another day . Very disheartening to wake up and know you gotta go in again.

Not sure yet if I'm still leaky (only 7am and post one cup of coffee) but lost a bit of plug I think yesterday too (heavy mucous but brown--like before my periods). Had mild contractions all day at work--then big fat nuthin.

I have my regular OB appt today, and I'm debating on saying something or saying nothing at all ala Redoakmama. That's what I did with my first as I leaked for a week and did not want to be on that 24 hour clock. That would also risk out of HB delivery by the midwife group.

Vit C--good idea--forgot about that one.

Thanks ladies.

Come on vibes--come on baby!!!

I'm kind of wondering how do you know if you're leaking or not? You think it would be obvious. Over the past week, some days I feel like I have a lot more discharge than usual (for a 40 week pregnant woman, anyway) but the times it's felt like that it hasn't been mucousy or anything, it's just been like thin, wet discharge but not enough to where I feel like I need to change my underwear or anything. I don't know, I haven't thought too much about it because everything else has been normal. The times when I've lost some mucous, I've only noticed it on the TP.

Payton

And that's exactly what they told me it was. So I fessed up at the OB's and THE G.D. PAPER DID NOT TURN BLUE!! Said it was just very thin mucous. So I was pretty bummed.

Weird place to be--if it was fluid, then I'm required (by who?) to have the baby within 24 hours i.e. risked out of homebirth--but I get a baby at the end--unless I just sit tight and UC. But if it's not fluid then life is good to go--but I'm without baby.

I vow to be in a better place in my mind today. No baby will not get me down.
