Constant ache in thigh - what could cause it?

I have this constant dull ache in my thigh. It is midway between the front of my thigh and the side. It feels like it is deep inside. There is no exterior tenderness. I have done nothing to strain it. I stretch well before I exercise and have had no problems that way. It has been constantly there for at least three months, probably more.

Any ideas? Any things I should/could look into?

It really could be anything. Some things that come to mind:

fibromyalgia
dehydration
repetitive injury
sleeping wrong/bad mattress
thyroid problems
diabetes
something out of whack with the hip or knee
tendonititis
blood clots

Since it's been going on that long, I'd have it checked out.

Have you hurt your back at all recently? Or ever? I have degenerative disc disease, and sometimes I get pain in my thigh that's similar to what you're describing even when my back itself doesn't hurt, we think it's a pinched nerve. It's a strange, strange sensation. When I really throw my back out, I get pains all the way down to my toes, and sometimes just in my toes. Bizarre.

Since it's ongoing, I'd get it checked out.
