My DD will be 1yr old this weekend! I remember all the reading and discussing I did here before buying CDs. Although she's our third child she's the first we've used cloth dipes with. Knock on wood, but we've had no problems! We bought small sized or one size diapers--mostly BG3's but also HH and FB. All are pocket diapers, all worked fine. They're all goind strong at 1 year. She hasn't even outgrown the smalls yet. I'd say my favorites are the BGs, but I had to have some cute designs too--so I do enjoy the HH. I don't like the snap dipes (FB) as much as velcro, but I'm glad I tried them. The BGs fit the best on a new born and they are adjustable to last through her need for diapers. Great!
FYI:
As a newborn DD was 10lb6oz and 21 inches. (All my babies were big so I new better than to order any extra small size.) She lost weight down to 9lbs before she started to gain again. She has a round belly and chucky thighs (but not SUPER chunky like some babes I see.) Currently she's 19lbs and 29inches. I say this because I thought it would be helpful for those trying to choose diapers.
Also may be helpful:
We use Charlie's Soap on everything. No problems. We have a frontloader HE washer and dryer. Never had any stink issues. No problem with diaper rash. I have never opened the diaper sprayer I bought. We use a tall Rubbermaid garbage can with a lid and with a laundry bag liner to put the dirty diapers in until they go in the wash.
My DH is almost exclusively the diaper changer and laundry washer and he does just fine with the pocket diapers.
It sure is nice not to have to buy tons of disposable diapers. We buy some occasionally when we travel and they sure are expensive! We chose CD because of health resons more than cost savings, but even with spending a few hundred dollars on diapers to begin with, we've saved money and continue to save.
DD doesn't care BTW whether she's wearing disposable or cloth.
Hope this helps someone just learning or wondering if they should try! Good luck!
