No, I've had two scares and a couple of relatives who have had it and survived. I know it's really scary; big hugs to you.

I've had a scare, and my mother had it. What is your diagnosis?

I haven't but I've had 3 relatives with it. All are fine now. I just wanted to wish you quick healing.

Hi, I'm going through it too, as of yesterday.  Just got a diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma, poorly differentiated (that means it's aggressive).  I'm currently nursing my 4th child, he's 9 months.  This is so devastating..my doctor thinks I should wean immediately...but I'm determined to keep nursing as long as possible.  From what I've learned so far, it seems to be safe to nurse through MRI and radiation, but not chemo...so I'm hoping for a lumpectomy and radiation.  But it's all just starting, so I have no idea what my treatment will be. I just ordered Dr. Hale's book, Medications and Mother's Milk, which lists all the new cancer drugs and their effects on breastfeeding.

What's your diagnosis?  Do you have a treatment plan yet?

Have you found a good breast cancer forum with other nursing moms?

I am so sorry that you are going through this.

breasthealthonline is another good resource.

Dear Zjando and HBM4, I have had a different type of cancer and wanted to give you both a hug. The first period when you first get the diagnosis is so tough. Once you get started on the treatment you will feel better, because you know that you are on your way to get well! thumb.gif

I breastfed through MRIs and radiation therapy. I didn't have radiation on my breasts, though. But the only thing I can think of that might affect breastfeeding, is if the skin on the nipples and breasts gets sore. What are the doctors saying about it?

Hi,

There's a cancer survivor mom thread in this forum if you search where we cancer mamas talk about things.  I'm currently going through chemo for breast cancer, feel free to PM me if you want to talk (either of you who posted on this thread).

I nursed through biopsies, mammograms, CT scans, bone scans, MUGGA scans and a mastectomy but weaned cold-turkey the night before chemo.  It sucks and it's hard but you can do it (and everyone will be surprised that you are).

I have stage IIIa invasive ductal carcinoma, hormone + and HER2-.  I have one more chemo left and then on to radiation.  Chances are, if your cancer is fairly aggressive they will want to do chemo and radiation.

Like I said, PM me and also find the cancer survivor mama thread as lots of us in there have cancer.  I'm so sorry about both of your diagnosises and wish I could give you a hug.
