DH and I both need life insurane policies. The one offered through his job wouldn't pay for a phone bill if something happened to either one of us. All State offered us a rate that was on the high side(we're both in great health, don't smoke, etc.) I would love it if someone can tell me a bit about a policy they have that is affordable. Thanks in advance!

We have one term life insurance policy through John Hancock (found through quotesmith.com ) and another AD&D policy through CUNA Mutual as an add-on to our complimentary life insurance from our credit union. (Each family member has a qualifying account through the credit union and the complimentary LI would cover the services we prefer and then some.) Together, they run us $25 a month (#1 = $16 and #2 = 9).

Term insurance is the way to go. Since you both need insurance you could get a policy on him with you as a rider. This is what we have. Think about your goals to determine the length of term. Our goal is for me to be able to stay home and continue to homeschool if something happens to DH so we have 20 year term since our kids are young.
Call around to several different companies in your area. Look in the phone book. Many places can sell policies from different companies and can find you the best rate. DH is an insurance agent and sells with a firm that can sell over 50 different "brands" of policies. Wish we could help but we're in the south. But there are lots of options. Call around and meet with a few different people before deciding. When a plan is presented to you google the company and their "AM Best" rating to see how legit they are. Hope that helps!
