I feel silly even asking this, but is it possible to be allergic to your own milk? I drank some the other day because I was worried I'd left it out a bit too long for the babe, and the last few days I've felt congested and kind of on the edge of getting sick. For the last 10 years I've been either allergic to dairy or severely lactose intolerant. I figured my own milk was safe because, well, I made it. Now I don't know what to think. I'm moving to a community that has a farm and they drink a lot of raw milk and say that often people who cant tolerate pasteurized milk can tolerate raw. But if i cant even stomach my own, I think the chances are slim I could take raw. Is this all in my head?

hmmm interesting. I usually spend my time in the allergy forum. I have two boys with multiple non-ige food allergies.
The only possibility I can think of, and honestly I don't know if it is true, is that you might be reacting to your own allergic reaction in your milk.
There are multiple ways for your body to get rid of a reaction: skin, poop, mucous, and breastmilk (there might be others). When I eat something I am reactive to, I build up histamine (or other allergic chemical reaction) and then release it into these emunctories. My breastmilk was a great (
) way to get rid of my extra histamine. My son would usually express ingesting my histamine through eczema. Another way I get rid of histamine is through normal sinus stuff.
I wonder if it is possible you released a lot of histamine into your milk (raw cow milk is naturally very high in histamines), and when you consumed it you've been releasing it through your sinuses.
I have no idea really. I think there is a better chance that you have a cold.
Those are just my ideas.
