Has this happened to anyone? I have heard it can happen, but I don't have any friends who have had babies who have gone on nursing strikes, so I don't know where to get any support.
Background: My now 8 m.o. went on one nursing strike before. It happened after we traveled by plane and he also had a cold. It lasted maybe a week. But I could lure him to the breast by squirting milk down my breast with a medicine dropper and continually squirting it into his mouth once he latched.
His 2 bottom teeth came in around 5 months with no fanfare.
His 2 top teeth are coming in now and he will not nurse. I work full time so I pump during the day and my boyfriend stays home with him and gives him expressed EBF bottles. He says DS has no problems with the bottles during the day. When I get home from work, DS lunges at me with his mouth, trying to suck on my knees, shoulders, chest. I bring him to his room to nurse, and he freaks out. I mean, as soon as the nipple touches his cheek he screams.
The night before last, he did this, but nursed while sleepy during the night, and nursed to sleep in the AM using the medicine dropper trick. Last night, he would not nurse, would not take the medicine dropper, no bottle, nothing. ALL NIGHT LONG. SCREAMED. I have gotten him to drink an ounce in the middle of the night and first thing this morning out of a cup.
But I have no idea what to do. He won't take a frozen milk cube from the mesh feeder, and I'm afraid to let him take a bottle during the day for fear that he will start to ONLY want the bottle. He doesn't really eat solids, and is EBF. I have to work today but have tomorrow off so I can be with him all day, but it seems like when I'm around, he's worse. He won't take milk in any form when I'm around, and at least he eats if I'm out.
This is making me depressed and Im totally taking it personally, and I have no idea what to do. HELP!!
