Are you looking for a CT ICAN chapter? There is one AFAIK:

http://www.icanofconnecticut.webs.com/

All ICAN chapter info can be found at:
http://ican-online.org/chapter/search

ICAN also does online webinars and online support meetings.

LOL! Nono! I am the chapter leader of ICAN of CT, and I am also the Regional Coordinator for ICAN in the North East. I am looking for women who do not have ICAN chapters within easy driving distance to where they are located.
In the past month we have had 2 ICAN chapters in the North East close down, so I am looking to see if there is anymore interest in other areas or in the area's where the chapters did close, to help more mothers get involved and help the women in their area.

There is an ICAN meeting at 7pm on Jan 27 at the Quincy Roche Bros.
It is an hour ride for me, but I'm going to try my best to get up there.

I know what you mean, there are a lot of women here in CT that want to get involved, but because our meeting locations are such a hike, most of the time they choose just not to come!

It is hard for all the ladies on the southcoast of MA and RI. I know MiNA, who is awsome, did the one in RI but I think she is not able to do it any more. That was our closest chapter...we really (RI and south coast MA) need one...esp cause they don't even "offer" vbac's at our hospitals anymore on the southcoast! I would be so interested in having ICAN meetings but I was blessed, after 3 inductions for pre-e, to not have had one.

One of the things you can do as a chapter is work towards overturning those ban's too. I am in Connecticut, and currently working on proposals for all the hospitals in the state that have ban's in place.

I thought there was another woman who wanted to start a chapter in South County RI, but I haven't seen any postings about that.
As of right now, the chapter in RI has closed.
MiNa stepped down from her position as a chapter leader, she has been an amazing leader, and resource in her area for so long.
If you are interested in finding out how to re-open that chapter, or another chapter in RI you can e-mail Northeastrc@ican-online.org

In 05 the hospital group became self insured. There was a mock tril of a uterine rupture presented to the boad and administrators of a uterine rupture case with a multimillion dollar payout.

The practitioners were never consulted, and even though 2 of the 3 hospitals have high c/s rates the docs were livid and were quoted in the media coming out against the ban. We had protests in front of 2 of the 3 hospitals with media...one of the docs even came out and thanked us for diing this right in front of a reporter. Women wrote letters ans continue to do so and make individual apeas to no avail. The one hospital with the best practitioners in MA (who happens to be in this hospital group)...their docs keep trying to meet with the board about this and the board will not. In fact this midwife and the 3 docs continued to do vbacs having people sign waivers...then last year a probate judge joined the board and told them they would be fired if they did any more vbacs.

So we have been tring hard...I can't take on another big project with a 3 y/o and another on the way...but I am willing to do what I can. I know ICAN NJ and others have been doing some amazing things and we could do some of thos things here...we just need a group of motivated women and families.
