Glucose Test HELP

So this is my 3rd pregnancy. I've failed 2 1hr and passed with flying colors both 3hr. So this pregnancy I was talking with a friend who has had GD all 3 pregnancy and this time around refused the 3hr. There are plenty of things they can do...treat you because the 1hr was high enough, do other tests like ultrasound to double check the baby and watch the heart rates for different things and keep a close eye on your urine, etc.
So my urine's been fine this pregnancy, I'm the same weight as I was with my daughter (2nd pregnancy). Same as the others, I failed the 1hr. When they called to say they wanted me to take the 3hr I said no. The nurse insisted I speak to the DR she works for. I stated I was going 2 days later, (tomorrow) to see my midwife & prefered to talk to her then. The DR & I just DO NOT get along. He has no patients with my daughter going into my visits...seriously all your doing is measuring my belly-which he hasn't done everytime I've seen him. And listening to the heart beat...which one time he got ticked that the doppler wasn't working properly and after checking to make sure the baby wasn't too low (my pants being much lower than my belly) opens the door and walks out without even drawing the curtain.
So the nurse gets pretty upset and gives me the whole bs about how it's a practice and you have to deal with everyone in it and she was going to have to note my chart that I refused to speak to him and they would get back to me. (haven't heard from them yet)
FINE! I just want to be able to talk to a rational person about these other tests that can be done instead of making me severely ill, for them to pump an unimaginable amount of NASTY tasting sugar into my body...which can't be good for me or baby.
Has anyone else refused to take the 3hr and gotten other tests done? I want to go in tomorrow with as much info as I can. I did check it out online. Nothing points to this being anything but my body taking more time to obsorb and digest a 10oz drink of pure sugar. So any info anyone can give would be wonderful.

Not a lot of advice, but I am in similar situation. When I was pregnant with my DD in 2007 I also had two 1-hr. diabetes screenings. I passed the first one and failed the second. I did end-up going to take the 3 hr GTT, which I passed with flying colors. The reason I opted to take the 3 hr test was because the MW told me that I would be treated like I had diabetes unless I passed. This meant some additional testing for my DD at birth that I did not want to subject her to (like extra pokes and prods to check her blood sugar). It also meant that they would probably start pushing for induction at an earlier gestation and doing additional NSTs and BPPs, also some things I did not want to deal with.

This time around I have already refused the 1st one-hour test. Not sure if I will take the one offered at 28 weeks or not. I have a glucometer and have been checking my own blood sugar regularly and everything looks fine. It gives me peace of mind that my body is processing sugar just fine. If you do not get the tests, you may want to invest in a glucometer and learn how to use it.

GL with your decisions! And I hope your dr's office is nicer to you the next time you go in!

Thanks for the info. I did read online that the 1hr is pretty rediculous and if they just did the 3hr it would save time and money. Most people do fail the 1hr and then pass the 3 hr. They even have a 2hr available.
I have some good questions to ask from my research and your feedback. My Mother in law is coming along with me. She understands the decisions my husband and I are making. Whether she agrees is another thing. My husband and I decided I would make no decision until I brought my notes from talking with them home and had time to discuss them.
I'll be checking this again before going in the morning and hopefully jot down anymore questions or info I can. I'm totally fine with doing the precautions like the home testing. Just have to get over my needle issue, which is another reason why I want to have an alternative to the 3hr along with the awful way the glucola makes me feel.
Thanks again!

I refused the 3-hr this time too. With DD's pregnancy, I had elevated levels on the 1-hr but passed the 3-hr fine (with the exception of praying for it to end because I was so nauseated). I swore I wouldn't do the 3-hr this time because I puke and feel nauseated plenty this time around anyhow, thank you very much. (I had hyperemesis the first time but it's worse this time.)

They didn't come up with any other tests and instead told me to start testing my blood sugar 4x/day and do the diet. They signed me up for the GD class, but the nutritionist realized my insurance probably wouldn't pay for it because I don't have a diagnosis (my levels on the 1-hr were 165, which isn't nearly high enough for a diagnosis) so they decided to just have me test my levels.

As it turns out, the number of carbs I have at any given meal is pretty close to the GD diet guidelines anyhow. Unfortunately, I've discovered that if I exceed them or have too many carbs, some of my blood sugar #s have been in the unacceptable range. I'm not looking forward to my appt next Wednesday.

I was really frustrated at first because nothing about me suggests GD. I eat healthy, don't eat a lot of sugar, am not overweight and never have been, have only gained 13 lbs at almost 30 weeks, and according to the u/s I had on Tuesday, baby is measuring 12th percentile so clearly I'm not in danger of even a 7-pounder (DD was 4 lbs 9 oz at term, hence the u/s to watch for pre-e or IUGR this time around). But perhaps GD is really is an issue for me this time. FWIW, I really hated checking my blood sugar at first because I really hate needles and even more hated the idea of doing it multiple times a day, but believe it or not, it is getting easier after only a week.

Also, I've heard that some midwives might have you monitor your blood sugar for a week or two, and if all the levels are normal then you won't have to keep doing it. Hopefully that can work out for you.

Thanks so much for sharing. I was definately able to go in feeling more confident than I thought I would.
My midwife was wonderful! I truly love her. She had no issues with my not wanting to do the 3hr and is only going to treat me as if I have it. The nurse will call to make an appt with the nutritionist and to have me come in so they can teach me how to test at home. She says if I'm good after a while of the 4X a day then they'll knock me down to twice a week. I will have a NST at 32 weeks and they may check the fluid around the baby 1-2 more times. She also would like me to consider being induced again. I'm hoping that the baby will come naturally a week or so earlier without needing to be induced again. My body take a very long time to do its thing both other inductions. I'm hoping my doula will have some ideas on good ways to naturally help things along and maybe we'll plan them for when my midwife is on call.
I feel great now the appt is over and went so well. She also contradicted the DR who told me the only way stress will effect the baby is if...and I'm totally serious about his answer...if everyone else in the family died in a tragic accident except the mother to be, the baby has no effects from stress. But it must be an extreme situation like that.
The midwife says ther are plenty of study's that show stress does effect the baby and Moms should learn measures of dealing with stress in order to balance things out.
Thanks again Mamma's!
