Snowstorms

There seems to be something about me being pregnant and snowstorms.

With my first son, we lived in the Mid-Atlantic, but had the most snow of our entire time living there when I was about 8 months along. My partner wouldn't let me do any shoveling because she was afraid of me going into labor when ambulances weren't able to get through to places. And then after he was born, we took him home in flurries, even though it was the end of March.

This time, we're in the Southwest and getting snow from all those Pacific fronts. My son's school is letting out early today and already planning on a delayed opening tomorrow--if they don't cancel school altogether. Today's snow started earlier than expected and is supposed to come in bands through Saturday afternoon. I, of course, have been having contractions on and off since the weekend, especially Monday night into Tuesday. I'm trying to explain to this guy that he either needs to come RIGHT NOW, before the roads get too bad, or wait until they're plowed again.

An extended snowstorm did it for me. Terrible snow and driving conditions and my water broke...snowed for 3 days straight and now I have my baby

I figure we've got three neighborhood families who would take our first son if my in-laws couldn't make it up here--and they have four-wheel-drive vehicles too (which we do not). I also realized today that my OB lives not even a mile from us.

Me too, although I live in Iowa and have been due in Jan and Feb, so it's not shocking. Anyway, the pattern for me seems to be having a baby during breaks in the weather (I hope that is the case this time, as we had an ice storm Thursday but are expecting really nice temps this weekend, and I want this baby out!). This winter and the winter I had DD have both been unusually bad in terms of snowstorms/ice storms.

Last time for me it was not a snowstorm (what's that? ) that put me into labor, but a hurricane...Katrina! I am in Houston so only 5 hours or so from NO, and that barometric pressure change sure got things moving for me that time! Still waiting on SOMETHING to happen this time!
