Blood and watery discharge at 16 weeks?

My friend had a painless discharge of blood and water at 16 weeks 2 days ago at night. She thought her water broke but it tested negative for amniotic fluid and the baby is fine. She never got in follow-up advice and is so worried because she had some foul discharge yesterday. None today. Could this have been a ruptured cyst even without pain? Should she be on abx? Any advice?

Honestly, I don't know.

I've had ovarian cysts in two of my pregnancies--and both sort of went away on their own. Did her OB/MW ever mention seeing any sort of cysts on her U/S? (If she had one?) Did they do an U/S to check on the baby after this incident?

I"m assuming if she thought her water broke, it was quite a lot of discharge.


Honestly, if it were me, I'd be on the phone back to my care provider... tell her about the foul discharge that came after...and get some advice.

I agree, time to call the care provider. That is what we pay them for!

Thanks for your replies. They did do an ultrasound. Nothing abnormal identified. She called her OB's office and the secretary told her that it could wait until Monday Needless to say she asked for direct advice from the OB and she said just leave it until Monday. She has m/c two times previous. I really feel for her this weekend. I assume they didn't think cyst because of the painlessness b/c I've read that a burst cyst needs prompt attn. I'm surprised they can't give her any idea of what it was, seeing as it was quite a lot of fluid!!
Any other ideas?

With both my first pregnancies I bleed around that time for no reason. Everything was fine but it was super scary. I'm sorry that her dr's aren't being responsive to her needs. That really sucks. I hope that everything is fine for your friend.
