Three-day-old baby is burping, is that normal?

I am a mom of three, but I can't remember if burping is normal or not? I remember my second baby needing to be burped and he soon started crying fits and colic-type behavior which wasn't resolved until I quit eating dairy (reluctantly, but it did work!). Should I eliminate dairy this early? Or do lots of breastfed babies burp? There is also a little spit up, but that might be due to my milk just coming in? He is kind of gulping a bit, ("glup, glup, glup"). Any thoughts?

Mine needed to burp a lot! I was surprised, cause I had always read that BF babies didn't burp as much as formula-fed babies, but she was super-cranky for weeks before we figured out that she needed to be burped for 10-15min after each feeding. I think it was partly due to my oversupply/overactive letdown - she'd gulp every feeding down in 5-10 minutes, even when she was only a few days old.

I've always had to burp my breastfed babies. When I read that breastfed babies don't need to be burped I just roll my eyes because that's certainly not the case for our household lol

Some do, some don't, in my experience. My first NEVER burped I don't think ONE TIME until she was a toddler (and now she burps on command and thinks it's hilarious at 4 years ). Second one didn't burp much either. New one burps constantly - even hours in between eating - and spits up after almost every single meal.
