Yay! Good news (but no earthside baby for me yet)

So, when my oldest DS found out we were having a new baby (he's 5.5), he asked if he could come to the baby shower. To him, the baby shower means, when the baby is born, as I have birthed my last two babies in the shower :-)

I'm planning to have this baby at a birth center that is within a hospital (b/c we have no freestanding birthcenters around here ). I was super sad when at 5 months along, a policy banning children under 14 was put in place due to H1N1. DS has been handling it okay, but I have been really sad about it. Well, last night we found out that they have lifted the ban DS can now come with us and participate in the birth, as long as he isn't sick. Also, after the birth, my other children can come see us, including my 2 yo DD who is still nursing and I was worried sick about.

Apparently, this baby has fantastic timing, because if s/he had come any earlier, this wouldn't have been possible.

I just wanted to share my excitement. It has really lifted my spirits and made me better able to handle these few remaining days of waiting. YAYYYYY!!!!

That's great! Good timing too.

I need to check in with our hospital and see if the policy still holds.

that's so great!! i think the ban is still in place at our hospital...which means ds won't get to see mommy for several days.

That's great! I was really upset about the same thing, but have been told [by someone who doesn't want to be named ] that since my son is vaccinated for H1N1, it should be okay. " 'There are no police at the door' - there might be some signs on the wall saying no kids, but it should be okay."

DC metro area

Per the INOVA website there is no ban for t he INOVA hospitals (which would be my back-up/transfer if required). That's fabulous as I couldn't imagine having child without my child/children close by.
