When did your LO cut down to 1 nap a day?

When did your little one start taking only 1 nap a day and how do you know when they are ready? I have an 11 month old that's always been a sleep fighter, but lately its a wrestling match every time! Shes still a poor sleeper at night too and Im wondering if maybe shes napping too much during the day.
Thanks!

Around twelve months dd started often just taking one nap a day (either that or having such a late afternoon nap that she'd be up really late at night!), and now at almost fourteen months she almost always takes one nap unless she has a bad night (like last night) and needs two.

DD dropped down to one nap right at 11 months. We had a few weeks of very frustrating naptimes as I was trying to give her the naps that she used to take...then I realized maybe she wasn't tired for them both anymore!

Now she takes one nap starting somewhere between 10-11 am and it goes until somewhere between 12 and 2 pm.

Ds dropped to one nap between 12-15 months. He still takes one nap a day at 3 years old.

At about nine months. He also at that time, mercifully, started napping for longer than 45 minutes without having to be re-settled.

DS went to 1 nap at 18 months. It was pretty obvious b/c he just couldn't settle for his morning nap, so I eventually pushed his nap to noon and he would sleep for about 3 hours.

With DD, I kinda pushed her to 1 nap shortly after 12 months. She was taking two 45-60 minute naps, so I moved her to one nap (that coincides with DS's nap ). Now she sleeps about 2-2.5 hours, but if we're ever in the car around 10am, she will fall asleep, so I try to avoid that or at least keep it to a very short < 20 minute nap.

Around 11 months. We were never that scheduled with naps, but I realized that DS would go to bed much better if he just had the one nap. So I pushed back his early nap to be around 12 or 1, he will nap for 2 hours and then is usually good. He does tend to get a bit fussy after dinner. But if I gave him a second nap he would be up til midnight.

9 months. one 1.5-2 hr nap around noon, then he sleeps from 7PM-8:30/9AM (with a lot of night wakings still). 2 naps means he's up until 11PM!

My older dd went to one nap around 11 months. My 14 month old still naps twice a day most days.

Mine have all been between 12 and 18 months, so far.

Wow what a great napper!
DD went to 1 nap at 8 months, the morning nap just wasnt happen much to my frustration (I used to sleep too and I really needed that). She went from 1 nap to none at 16 months, it just wasnt worth the fight anymore. It took over an hour to get her to sleep and her nap was only 45-60 mins and guaranteed a bedtime fight too.

Thanks for all of your replies! I was concerned because I have heard that a year old is early to drop the 2nd nap but from what it sounds like that is more the norm! She only had 1 nap the last 2 days and both nights went down easily without a fight which was such a breath of fresh air! However, she was up every hour last night, but that's another issue!

At 11 months. It pretty much coincided with starting daycare, he didn't want to miss out on all the action in the mornings. Now he has a three-hour nap in the afternoon instead of having it split.

Same here.

Around 9-10 months old. He started fighting his afternoon nap and wouldn't be tired until 5 PM, then would be up really late. I started keeping him up until 6 and then putting him down for the night. Now he goes to bed around 7 and wakes for the day between 5-6 and still takes a morning nap from 10-12 or so.

DS held on to his two naps until past 18 months! It took a two week trip to visit family to adjust his nap schedule. His cousin (six weeks older than him) had been doing only one nap for quite some time and he didn't want to miss out on any fun with her so he stayed up through his morning nap. i don't know how long he would have kept with the two naps if we hadn't taken that trip!

DD was a one nap a day kid from 10 months on. It helped reduce the fighting at bedtime for about a month or so, but then she was back to her usual antics.

Oh no! I was getting excited! This is day 3 with only 1 nap..... I tried so hard to give her the 2nd one today because the 1st one was early and I know she needed it, but we were out of the house till 2 and I missed the very narrow window. Anyways for the 3rd night in a row she hasn't battled me to go to sleep... I will keep my fingers crossed!!

Did any of you feel like the change contributed to more night wakings as they got adjusted? she was up constantly ALL night last night and Im wondering if she was just on overdrive!

For us, cutting out the second nap has really helped with DS's sleep fighting. As long as we keep things chill from about 5 pm until he goes to bed, he doesn't fight it at ALL anymore. Which is a huge blessing. He still wakes very frequently though.. that hasn't changed at all.
