Meeting for the first time

We are meeting an emom this weekend. We are not the only family she's meeting, so this isn't a match yet, but this is a step closer to a match than we've been before!

Any suggestions for questions we should ask, things to talk about? Our sw already clued us in to the fact that the emom is not a big talker, so she said we're going to have to carry a lot of the conversation.

Thanks for your help!

I bet it's going to be nerve racking being the only real talkers in a meeting so intimate! Stay calm. At least emom told you ahead of time she isn't one for big talk, that way you won't get the feeling (at the meeting) she isn't talking to you because she doesn't "like" you. Kwim? You never know, she may surprise you and talk up a crazy storm!!

Good luck!!

I wish I had something helpful to say. Our first meeting was pretty awkward I thought. And I'm usually pretty good at small talk. DH ended up carrying the conversation. I think we talked a bit about religion (at her instigation) and we talked about living expenses (at her instigation) and we talked about where she had lived. I guess you might walk to ask about how she envisions the post-adoption relationship (visits, photos, etc). We did talk about that. I asked her why she chose our profile. We met at a restaurant so chewing took up some of the time. LOL.

Best wishes for the meeting,
Catherine

We actually just had a first visit with a pregnant couple this week, and it actually went well. We had not met any other pregnant moms or couples prior to this, and were very nervous. If you google it, you will find lists of questions to ask (as well as questions that aren't appropriate to ask). DH and I each picked out a few to remember, and asked those when there was a lull in the conversation. The pregnant mom we met with was very talkative and had a lot of questions. The person we have been working with was also there, and she helped keep the conversation going. I think a big part of it was that the conversation flowed pretty naturally. We had a number of things in common with them, and genuinely enjoyed talking with them. Anyways, good luck! It was much more stressful leading up to the meeting and felt a lot more relaxed once we got into the meeting and started talking with them. I hope all goes well for you guys.

I'm not sure how I missed this! I wish I could have wished you good luck.
