Baby's head is engaged, but not directly over cervix. What to do?

I hope this is the right forum for this. If not, please feel free to move it.

I am 36w2d and my baby's head dropped sometime last week. This is my first pregnancy. According to the MW, he is at station -2. She says that his head is positioned to the front of the uterus, not directly over the cervix. However, she doesn't normally check cervices at this stage of pregnancy, so she doesn't know if it's common. She suggested doing lunges in order to help the baby's head move back so it's directly over the cervix.

I've never heard of this. Is it an issue that could slow labor? Are there any other exercises I can do? I've already had three bouts of preterm labor. Could this be impeding progress?

With my second I had this problem, and my midwife suggested lots of squatting, and belly binding (a big elastic band that wraps around your belly) to hold the baby in more upright position.

Your baby's head position is normal. It is part of what helps babies not be born prematurely. The cervix will come forward either right before or during labor. You don't really need to do anything.

ITA w/defenestrator--sounds totally normal to me, and I would not worry at all.

Have fun with your upcoming birth!
