Am I nuts for considering this?

I'm considering working 6 days a week. Willingly. I already have a M-F 9-5 job, but I've been feeling more and more like maybe it's just not the right career choice for me and was trying to think of what I'd like to do if I could do anything at all.

First choice was (and always has been) to be a SAHM, but I'd still need some income to make that work.

Second choice would be to work at selling things I've become passionate about: cloth diapers, baby carriers, natural products, etc. but working retail would pay less than half of what I make at the moment. So Catch-22.

UNTIL, my favorite local store of all things I've just mentioned posted on Facebook that they're looking for someone part-time, approximately 20 hrs a week and Sat or every 2nd Sat. (I quickly shot a message to the owner asking if she would consider hiring for just Saturdays and she seemed open to the idea at least.)

This is something I think I'd really enjoy doing and who knows, if I can whittle our expenses down, I maybe could even work it into becoming a SAHM. But 6 days/wk?? Am I nuts or should I try to go for it?

Honestly, this sound VERY draining to me and you are right to question yourself.

Let me throw an idea out:

Would it be possible to volunteer for the store 3-4x and work a full Saturday shift and see how you feel? That way if you're not up to it, you and the owner aren't really obligated to each other.

Is there a chance of cutting your hours at your regular job? Are there any benefits you would lose that you can't live without? Since you are in Canada, you don't need health insurance, but what about paid vacation? Would you be willing to work odd retail hours?

Ive done it before. It's hard, but not impossible. You might enjoy it enough to find a way to make it your full time job.
