I can't find the hearbeat with doppler

I haven't checked in almost 2 weeks but have been unable to find the hearbeat tonight. This is terrifying me. I am 18 weeks and have had questionable movement but nothing for at least 5-6 days at all. My ultrasound is tomorrow and I was going to take my kids but now I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't if there really is no heartbeat.

This pregnancy has made me worry enough with lack of movement b/c I have always felt early with the last 3. I had a nightmare 2 nights ago that I miscarried at 18 weeks and it was a girl. Is that intuition or paranoia? I don't know what to think. My 9 year old was looking forward to going tomorrow and I hate to disappoint her. What do you suggest/think?

You never know what position the baby is in and it could make it harder to find the heartbeat. Is it possible for your kids to wait in the waiting room until you get to see the heartbeat just for your own comfort. If it was me I would maybe have some juice and try again. Maybe the baby will move into a better position or you might be able to hear movement. Keep us updated.

My baby keeps moving away.. my midwife can find the heartbeat for a fraction of a second and then nothing.. but then my 4yo was like that too.. didn't want to be bothered with stuff.

You might also have an anterior placenta, which can make a hb difficult to find. I second the orange juice (my item of choice is ice cream...the cold and sugar seem to help), and try again. Lots of goop, and make sure that your batteries are good on your doppler. Mine gets really fuzzy and hard to hear when they are getting low. I pray that you can hear it tonight and have your worries dissolved.
kind regards,

I know it's possible to have an anterior placenta but my last pregnancy I had an anterior placenta and felt baby move at 12 weeks and used the same doppler from 8 weeks on with no problems finding the heartbeat. My Dr/midwife listened at my last appt and said my placenta was posterior/fundal, although I don't know how accurate she was by listening. I had chili for a late dinner, then an hour later ice cream, still nothing. I have decided not to take my children just in case. If the baby still has a heartbeat the ultrasound will be on DVD so my oldest can watch it later. I pray everything is okay.

Oh Mama~ it is so worrisome. This happened to me at 21 weeks with my first dd. I couldn't find her heartbeat~ which I could always so easily find before, nothing got her moving for me either and she was a mover and shaker at 14 weeks on, very strong and steady. It had been over 24 hours at the point I finally went into l&d because I was so sure something was terribly wrong. Dh and I were frantic. They strapped on the monitor and she flipped a huge flip to kick it off and was just fine. Just in a position that I could not feel *anything* ! That didn't happen again or with my others but it scared me so badly. My placenta was not anterior either.
Looking forward to a healthy update from you. deep breaths and more

Not good news. My intuition was right, no heartbeat. I have paged my Dr/midwife twice she has still not returned my calls. Don't know what the next step is b/c she does not work out of a hospital, she does homebirths.
