I posted this (http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1174655) thread on here a little while back about my daughter's strange symptoms. Wanted to write a little update.
Samara seemed to get back on the curve developmentally. She did not have any symptoms for 2 weeks, but we still kept our dr's appointment. The regular pediatrician was concerned, and recommended an MRI, a CT scan, and an EEG, but had to refer us to a pediatrician back in the panhandle since we were leaving Jacksonville just a few days later. It took FOREVER to get an appointment with the pediatrician here, and meanwhile, Samara's symptoms started up again...just as bad, if not worse than before. We finally saw the pediatrician here this past week, and she put in a referral to a neurologist, however, assured me it was very unlikely we'd get an appointment before we leave for Washington on the 27th. Sure enough, we've heard nothing, and this afternoon, Samara had one of her scariest and longest stretches of her symptoms. She kept leaning and leaning, over and over, and at one point, when I was sitting next to her, her head bent so far towards me that it was pressing, HARD against my arm. I got chills when it happened, and called my husband and said, "We are taking Samara to the ER. This is not normal and something needs to be done NOW."
Of course, the ER doc thought I was some crazy mother. That attitude ('silly, emotional over reactive woman') pisses me off, but my husband started doing the talking. As soon as the doc realized my husband was 'one of them' (a Corpsman in the medical field), he walked out of the room, and came back a little while later with an appointment for us, TOMORROW at the neurologist. So we will finally see a neuro tomorrow!! I wish they couldve done something tonight, but they are a small military ER and apparently cant do any of the testing there since it requires her sedation. Of course, we leave WEDNESDAY for Washington state, so unless they get on the ball very quickly, we will STILL have to start all over again when we get there.
I am very nervous. I have to go to the neurologist without my husband since he will be in class tomorrow, and in my experience, neurologists are even more arrogant than most doctors (I had to see one a few years ago for what turned out to be a B12 deficiency.) I am going to go in as confident as I can, and make him take me seriously. I hope we can move things quickly so we can find out what is going on with my little girl very soon.
Thanks for all the advice and support, ladies! It's so helpful
