I'm freaking out here! Possible retraction?

Thread Starter
We had my son's 4 month appt yesterday. My husband was standing at the exam table with the doc and I was standing to the side letting my husband handle the exam and looking at some info on diet modifications for reflux the doctor had printed out for us. The exam seemed to be going fine, DS didn't cry or anything. When we got home I asked him (I don't know why I didn't even think of it until we got home) "He didn't try to retract his penis during the exam, did he?" DH replied, "I don't think so." Me (freaking out): "You don't THINK so?!!!"

So I've been emotional about this all day. I didn't feel like I needed to hover over DS like a hawk with my husband right there. I have a tendency to not let DH take care of DS without me butting in, so I thought I would let him take the lead during the exam. But now I'm not sure what to think. My pedi was supportive of not circumcising to begin with (he is from India and I know has experience with intact boys). However, I do remember him looking at the penis at his 2 month appt, which I only now realize means he may have been slightly retracting to look at the opening? I don't know. I'm so confused and scared that I've allowed my poor baby to be damaged and hurt. DH doesn't think he did retract, but he is circumcised so I don't think he knows. Would my DS have cried when the doctor retracted it (if he did)?
I don't notice anything today- no redness or anything. Do I have reason to be freaking out or should I just give my doc the benefit of the doubt that he didn't retract? And how can I avoid this in the future?

Thanks. I appreciate any advice.

Take a deep breath. It's okay.

It sounds like, IMO, that the doctor probably didn't retract him. The rate of circ in India is pretty low from what I've heard, so my guess is that the doc would be familiar with proper care.

But to soothe your fears, maybe discuss intact care with your doc at your next visit?

By moving the foreskin back to visualize the opening he retracted. Now having said that it takes many times of forced retraction for damage to occure. Odds are no damage was done but in the future you need to tell the dr before the diaper even comes off to not even touch your ds penis. That way you wont have anything to worry about and your ds will be 100% safe.
