My four week old daughter has started being very awake at night. We get up to nurse because I am not comfy nursing lying down, but she used to nurse back to sleep whenever she woke, then I'd lay her back down in bed and she'd sleep a couple more hours.
Now she just is wide awake. If she does drift into a light sleep on my lap she wakes right up when I move. When I put her down she starts grunting and working really hard moving her legs and arms and inching forward around the bed. She behaves the same if I try to lay down with her on my chest. She seems kind of frantic.
I put her on her stomach to sleep which is what worked best for my first dd and also seems to be the only way this one will sleep.
I'm thinking all of that working her body and limbs maybe means swaddling is my answer? I've never swaddled, but I tried it with this one with a receiving blanket and she hated it. However it may be because I did an awful job of it and it didn't really hold her tightly. I think I would need a swaddling blanket with training wheels.
Anyone think swaddling will be helpful or do you have other suggestions?
Right now I have to get up once or twice a night, wrap her up on me, and bounce VERY actively on the birth ball to get her to sleep. Kind of disruptive to MY night!
