Are teeth marks normal?

Cause that's what our two-year old is leaving on the underside of my breast. I don't remember her leaving marks in the past - I think her latch changed while I was pregnant. I thought all my frustration was related to breastfeeding agitation, but maybe part of it's just plain old discomfort.

I get teethmarks whenever my LO is teething or changing his latch for some other reason (like new nursing acrobatic pursuits)

It sucks but then they go away and I enjoy nursing again. He is only 14 months so I figure I should just get used to it.

We are also working on "open wide" which works when he is awake at least...

I get teethmarks across the top. DS has a small overbite and I think that is what causes it. It is only uncomfortable during marathon nursing sessions (i.e. if he is sick).

Do you notice the marks every time or only during certain nursing situations?

It's uncomfortable since November, but I only just started looking for teeth marks (hey, I have a newbrn, what can I say?). I've really tried to learn from some other ppl's experiences today & be firm on trying to correct her latch. I think it's getting a little better, but it's certainly taking a lot of attention & relatching.

I often notice teeth marks on the top when DS finishes nursing (he just turned 1). It isn't uncomfortable or anything and I don't really notice anything different while he's nursing. I haven't really thought much of it.

We got into this habit too when I had thrush for so long I couldn't tell what was causing the pain - thrush or bad latch. Until I saw the teeth marks! Now that the thrush is gone we are really working on not leaving her stamp! She is 14 mos and understands when I say "big, no teeth" and she opens wide. If I feel any discomfort I tell her "off, that's not sweet to Mama's milky" and we try again.

DS went through a period a few months ago were he was leaving teeth marks across the top most of the time. I showed him the marks and told him it hurts mama and makes me not want to nurse when he uses his teeth. So he has been working hard not to use his teeth. It still happens occasionally, mostly on the left breast while lying down, and I just say no teeth fix your latch and he usually latches on again or he will ask for his soother to chew on instead

Only one year here but I do notice the teeth marks more when DD is overtired and more interested in comfort than nutrition. She seems to clamp down more when she's trying not to fall asleep... So I pop her off and say "try again!" and she attacks the boob with more vigor, which seems to help.

I wonder if you're noticing the teeth more because you're tandeming now? I would try to see if you can improve her latch first.
