What to wear at my maternity photo shoot?

I have an appt on Sunday to get maternity photos taken. DS will be in a couple of them and this will ultimately be a surprise for DH (V-day gift). But what should we wear? What have you worn in yours? I would like to have it coordinate with what DS is going to wear. He has an off white thermal top w/ red stripes and I have a black and off white cardigan that I wear over a off white or blank cami. Or DS has a red KC Chiefs shirt (DH is a BIG Chiefs fan) and I could wear the same thing or a different top.

Some of the pics will be b&w and some will be color. We're not getting many, just a couple to hang in the baby's room and display in the living room and of course, to give to DH.

I have done a few photo shoots and I think the best advice I got was to bring a few different options. Some tops end up looking better in pictures then others, and it is hard to know which will look the best before hand. The photographer might also have a feel for what looks best when he/ she sees your options.

If I were you I would look at some similar pictures online and get a feel for what you think looks best. I know a friend of mine wore a white button down shirt in some so that it could be open to show off her belly. I thought that looked really nice. Her older child was pictured hugging and kissing her belly.

as a photographer I would rather you bring in 2 or 3 choices and ask me what would look best... certain patterns/colors can become rather distracting in color photos or just look odd in B&W. I wish all of the shoots I have had did this... the guys tend to have these odd designs on their shirt that for the particular shoot is just too distracting (such as trying to take some nice sibling photography for my mothers friend for christmas) I actually had to go in and erase most of the design off of his shirt because it attracted the eyes away from their faces!

Good advice, ladies, on bringing in different options. We'll both wear jeans - dark ones. Also, I've moved my appt to next Saturday morning. My mom wants to take me baby shopping and this Sunday is the only time she can do it before the baby arrives. Also, by postponing, it'll give me some time to look around at the sales and maybe grab something new for the photo shoot.

I recently had these done. DH and I both brought a few outfits and the ones that came out the best were ones taken outdoors in our plainest clothes. It was a little cold, and the scenery was pretty brown and muted since its winter, but the lighting was wonderful. DH and I both wore dark jeans and white shirts. His was a white button down and mine was a plain long sleeve tee. I think keeping it simple allowed the pictures to focus on our expressions and really capture the emotions.

Your photographer will probably have ideas about colors and settings to try to capture you in your best light. Hope you enjoy the session and I hope that they turn out great!

I LOVE all the photos of our family that are done with us in jeans with plain black shirts or white shirts. It just looks so put together and the faces really stand out instead of the clothes, does that make sense? I Love the button down white shirt on mom and one on son...something similar to this....

I brought a couple things, but ended up doing most in a white top and black pants. The almost nude/covered with a sheet ones turned out really good (if you are comfy with that).

I'll see if I can find a pic online that shows my shirt, just to give you more ideas. It seemed like most of my photos were from the waist up, so jeans or black pants would work well.

one here, and here.

Hope you have a great time at your shoot. You will treasure those photographs forever.

Having been both the subject and the photographer...I like the sports bra or similar type short shirt with big belly hanging out in some; the white button-up collared shirt that can be open at the bottom; and the snug fitting nursing-type tank or camisole. It is a few options and you can get really different looks with them.
