Felted sweaters as the inner layer of potholders?

I have a sweater that started out as a man's XL, and is so felted that it doesn't even fit my 5 year old. That sweater must be at least 1/4" thick. Do you think it would work as the inner layer of a pair of potholders instead of batting?

Great idea. I need new potholders, and have lots of felted stuff. What are you going to cover it with?

What a neat idea! I have two sweaters I am felting into pants/longies for DD, and this would be a great project for the scraps.

We had this canvas laundry sorter, and the frame broke this week. The frame got thrown away, but I had to save all that canvas! I think it will be perfect - it's a plain vanilla color, so I think I'll use some pretty colored thread to quilt the top. I'm using the oven mitt pattern from Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter.
