Spit Up- A New Thing,...Is It Normal???

I know there are a million threads on this....but I thought I would post my particular thing.

My LO is 6w and 2d old. He hardly EVER spit up after eating-- until the last few days! About 3 days ago he started giving nice big burps after feeding, and then the last 2 days he has been spitting up (sometimes a lot, sometimes a little) after a few feedings (he spit up a HUGE amount after this mornings feeding!). He is not distressed while spitting up.

He has always had a problem with gas from the "other end" though...sometimes with great discomfort, sometimes not.

But---the spit up.....Is it something I ate (I did have a piece of cheese pizza last night for the first time in weeks)? Or is it that my milk supply is really rolling now? (I had low supply, so I have been pumping and taking herbs--and I know I have a good supply- but now is it too much??)

I know he isn't sick or anything, and that spit up is normal...but I am just trying to get ideas since it has not been his norm so far.

Thanks ladies!!!

Mine is a month adjusted age and has just started spitting up, too. He's not bothered by it. He'll just be sitting up smiling happily at me after eating and blurp, up comes a bit of milk. (The first time it totally freaked me out.)

I have become convinced that his digestive system is maturing, and all of this stuff - gas, burping (which he also didn't do much of at birth), spitting up, etc. - is just part of that.

not all babies are spitters from day 1. Well, my first was, but DD2 took about 6 weeks before she started.

So... normal, yes. But also yes, he may be sensitive to something in your diet (dairy is a very common culprit, and if the baby is only mildly sensitive, it may have taken the 6 weeks for it to build up to the point of irritation (think of it like a bucket... gradually filling up faster than it drains... and eventually it starts overflowing))

Well, mine is a lot younger, but when he started spitting up, the nurse said that it was likely from overeating (i.e., nursing for comfort rather than out of hunger) and spitting up the excess.
