I don't like it as much as BSG, either. But I agree, it is interesting to learn about the history, society and culture that was hinted at in BSG.
The cylons were disgusted with the human tendency towards violence and cruelty, weren't they?
Zoe, the main gal whose avatar is turned into the first cylon, is a crusader. Do I have that right? In response to the violent cruelty portrayed in the cyber world, she tells her avatar that she's going to make it better. I think that's what she was saying, anyway. She was a little more daring than her avatar was.
So here's what I think we're supposed to get from this: the seed of that zealous, crusading attitude that the cylons have is from her. We're seeing the very beginning of it right there, in the pilot episode.
I think it's absolutely fascinating, and I would have loved to have been watching this simultaneously with BSG.
But I do think the show is kind of a downer. Battlestar Galactica was fun!
