Absorbent layer suggestions?

Does anyone know if cotton quilt batting can be used as an extra absorbent layer inside of homemade prefolds? I have heard of using more layers of flannel, but I hae a limited supply and am using that for the outers. Other suggestions?

Old towels or ratty old bathrobes cut up and laid down the center.

Yes you can use batting but it will wad up with time unless you quilt the area you put it in, which will lead to wicking and basically defeat the purpose. Old towels and washcloths or cut up flannel pajamas work well for soakers.

I use microfiber towels from Target's auto department. Just cut to size and sew inplace. Works great for us. good luck!

I came on here to ask the same EXACT question... I used microfiber towels from the auto dept at Sams club but they got stinky and I couldn't get rid of the stench even after a couple washes and using vinegar. Then I bought the terry cloth towels but for dd1 who's 1.5 three layers of the terry isn't absorbent enough and its already quite bulky with the three layers....

So I was wondering about batting as well... someone else mentioned wicking... what do you mean? I do intend to "quilt" it so to speak, how would it wick, I just want it to hold the liquid, would it not do that?
