my little one is soon to lose her first tooth. i have a few thoughts about what the tooth fairy might leave but i thought it would be fun to see what others have done.

My daughter just lost her first tooth today & I was wondering what a reasonable amount of money would be to leave under her pillow in exchange for her tooth. I was thinking $1 or $2. For those who have given money, how much did you give?

we have had quite a few visits from the tooth fairy.

initially tooth fairy left a gold dollar and a toy. gardening tools dd wanted for a long time. with tooth fairy sparkles. later it was stuffed toys, some artifacts from south america that she liked....

subsequently tooth fairy did away with the money coz dd lost interest in it. in fact she has never been interested in the money.

Im curious as well. My 4.5 y/o expects money, because that's what all media characters get, but I have a hard time w/ that because what else can he buy for $1 other than candy or some MIA piece of total junk? I never thought of presents, but I don't know if I want to set that precedent. Maybe a book? A new electric character toothbrush?

We do money, usually $1. They don't spend it by itself, though. They get money other ways, so if they receive a dollar from the tooth fairy, it goes in their bank to save up for whatever they would like. The gift ideas are nice, just in my case - with multiple kids at the tooth losing age, I would have to run out late at night if I didn't have anything on hand. Sometimes their tooth falls out at 10 pm... money is usually something we can find.

I put $3 under the pillow so dd could spend it alone or save it. She doesn't get a ton of money from other things so I felt like that was a good amount.

Thanks for the input. I think we'll do $1. I'm also not cool with going to the dollar store to buy junk, but dd is very good about saving money.

Here the tooth fairy leaves $2 for subsequent teeth, but $5 for the FIRST tooth. My dd3 just had to have her first tooth pulled at the dentist (with shots involved and she was a champ) and the tooth fairy left $10 for that one!

When DS lost his first tooth, I asked around a bit, and his friends were getting $5 per tooth. I thought that was a bit much, so the tooth fairy brought $2 and some stickers, and she wrote a little note in tiny, squiggley letters, praising him for taking such good care of his teeth! That was his favorite thing...she's never written another one as yet, but that's what he always looks for!

she lost it tonight!!! she is so excited. we have been telling her that the tooth fairy lets her keep her first tooth so she is very excited about that. i was planning on giving her 2 quarters, a rose quartz heart and leaving some star sequins.

my little one likes rocks and gemstones so I think that is what future visits from the tooth fairy will leave maybe coins from different countries too

My middle DS is about to lose his first any day. With my older DS the first visit, the tooth fairy left a special "doll" to put his teeth in so she could find them easily (his is called "Toothless Wonder" and is dressed as a Super Hero). My middle DS loves space, so I found a small pillow with a Rocket on it. Most independent toy stores sell similar things.

Our tooth fairy leaves everything from a couple of quarters (she can be cheap ) to dollar bills, to Pokemon cards, when that was the current trend. Unfortunately my boys have gotten the idea that she can take "requests" even the night of. She always does her best but sometimes just leaves money because she can't find the request in such a short time. She always leaves a note, though (done on my computer in a special "tooth fairy" font -- i.e. always the same, and kind of fanciful looking).

Last time she visited she left my oldest a book on Wizards and something small for my middle son with a note that she would be visiting him soon for his own teeth. Oldest had asked for a letter from a real Wizard School (A La Harry Potter), so she left the book and information for us parents about a special Hogwarts Camp, which we did send him to.

Long story short, Tooth Fairy here is whatever works at the time.

My oldest ds just lost his first tooth last wk and I told him I had heard that the tooth fairy leaves $5 for the FIRST tooth and $1 for every tooth after that. He loves to buy his own things and doesn't get money for anything else so he was excited. The tooth fairy (courtesy of dh) also left a new toothbrush w/the money, and a new toothbrush for ds2 also under his pillow.
