A Question for you Stokke Trip Trappers

I saw in the highchair question of yesterday, a few of you recommending the trip trappe. I've been considering this because I love how its wood, grows to fit up to adult sizes etc. I have a couple questions, though:
1- Did you get the infant attachment and did you feel this necesary? (Our DD is 6 months old)
2- Is this moveable from room to room or super heavy?
3- Did you get the plastic tray thats made for it too-did you like it?
4- Oh and I suppose if you know of any magical secret for getting these for less than their inflated market price, this would be great too!

Thanks so much!

I inherited one from my sister...great way to get one free. But, seriously, maybe you can find a used one on Craig's List or on MDC or something?

I like it a lot. I never got the baby insert. I started using it with dd after she could sit up alone. At first I sat near her so I could help her if she started to slump to one side, but she was strapped in and pushed up to the table, so pretty stable.

It's a little heavy to move with one hand while holding the baby in the other, but I do it all the time, definitely not a deal-breaker. Now that dd is older, she pushes it to the kitchen to cook or do dishes and pushes it back to the table. (We have wood and tile floors and I put felt pads on the bottom of it.)

No plastic tray. I just used a place mat at the table.

Both my sister's kids decided they didn't want to use it after a while. But, I guess if your kid doesn't want it to grow with him/her, you can always set it up for your size.

We didn't get the infant attachment and our dd did just fine sitting up in it at about 5.5 months.
2- Is this moveable from room to room or super heavy? It's a little on the heavy side.
3- Did you get the plastic tray thats made for it too-did you like it? We got the plastic tray, and LOVE it!!! It's expensive, but well worth it in my books.
4- Oh and I suppose if you know of any magical secret for getting these for less than their inflated market price, this would be great too! Our friend has a baby store, so she sold us her floor model for way cheap and the tray was a gift. Can you hit up some grandparents for it? We looked for ages on CL and never saw one anywhere near us in over ten months of looking.

Thanks so much!
We love our Tripp Trappe. Highly recommend it.

1- Did you get the infant attachment and did you feel this necesary? (Our DD is 6 months old)

We did get the infant attachment and it was nice for the first 5 or so months, we took it down at 13 months, but could have gotten by without it by 10 months or so (we got it at 5 months).

2- Is this moveable from room to room or super heavy?

It isn't any heavier then any of my other chairs, it can be moved from room to room without much trouble at all.

3- Did you get the plastic tray thats made for it too-did you like it?

I got mine before the plastic tray came out, so no I didn't get it, but I also got it so DS could be pulled up to the table, so I won't have gotten it anyway.

4- Oh and I suppose if you know of any magical secret for getting these for less than their inflated market price, this would be great too!

No clue on that, would be nice, since I would like a second one for DD, even if DS is not using his right now.

Thanks so much mamas! Sounds like the infant attachment may not be 100% necesary. We'll be getting our TT soon!

We never had the infant attachment and DS was about 7 months when he started using it. No tray either, and it moves the same as any other chair, like the PPs mentioned. My DS is 3 and close to 40# and still sits in his every night! We really love it.

We have like 4 of them, and really love 'em!
They look a little bit different here, picture here. Never had anything else than what's in the picture for them.
We've attached external harness if we felt the need. But usually we just never left their side when they were in the chair and little.
I've carried that chair with kiddo in with no problems, and also carried it with one hand and the baby with the other, also no problem.
Our soper sikrit way of getting two of them for free was that one were mine and the other one of my brothers when we were little. And they still look great, they just last forever. I love using the one I (and my bro') used as little for my kids.

We loved it, and still love it for our two and a half year old daughter. I'd love to find one for my newest babe...

We bought the infant attachment, but only used it for about 4 months. You could probably do without it as long as you are in arms reach. But if you want to be able to pop baby in the seat while you cook, etc, I'd get it... it just offers a little more support in my opinion.

Get one, you won't regret it!

We got our TT when DS for 3 1/2 months old, and we've gotten a lot of mileage out of the infant attachment. At this point, he's still using it (he's 8 mths now), and I think it will be another 2 or 3 months before I will only use the bar without the back part.

DS sits in the chair while eating and sometimes when we cook together because he likes to be at the same height I am (well roughly).

The chair is very moveable. We've been know to take it with us to visit friends and to child-friendly dinners. It's so much easier if DS is in his own chair, and he likes to sit at the table with everyone.

We have two TTs, would have got a third, but our oldest announced he was going to sit in a regular chair.

We did get the infant set up and cushions and are using it for the third time, but if you wait until the infant is able to sit unsupported, which you should be doing anyway, then you could get away with a harness, the loops to attach it to come with the basic chair.

For us, using the baby set means we don't have to use a harness (or be constantly right there), because she can't just move a bit and start to be falling or getting out, I can have her in it and get up to get something from the kitchen, so I'm within 30sec reach rather than instant reach, it doesn't come with a harness, so you'd have to buy that instead and strap it every time.

I'm not sure the tray was available when we got out first, but when we set up the chair with the baby set, the front bar was exactly at the height of our table, so we push it right up to the table and there is no need for a tray.

It isn't exactly light, but that to me makes it much more stable, I've never had either of ours knocked over, even with big kids doing stupid things. But it's still light enough that we will stick it in the trunk if we're eating at someone's home and that DD doesn't have a problem moving it around the house if she decided she's going to use it to climb, not great, but I'd rather she climb on a tripp trapp than another high chair and I don't have eyes in the back of my head, so it is going to happen!

About trays ... are people talking about a tray like a high chair tray? The tray that we have just goes on the table when the chair is pulled right up. Is there another kind?

1- didn't get the infant attachment. DS got his at 15m and used it right away. DD got hers at 6m, started using it more regularly by 8m, but she could sit very well by 5m so I wasn't worried about it. We always sit together so she's never alone in the chair.

2- its moveable, not too heavy, but has these sharp corners at the bottom that can hurt if you smack yourself (or someone else) w/ them. My son used it as a "toy" starting around age 2 and could easily move it around. Its a little big to move all over the house, but so are other high chairs I've seen.

3- didn't even know there was a plastic tray for it, maybe I'll look into it b/c DD likes to eat frozen blueberries every day and its staining our table big time! (she's still too little for plates, they go flying)

4- got them both on craigs list for half price, in super good condition (like, practically unused). Check it for a while until you see one come up...

we love our Tripp Trapps. They are so durable, so comfortable, so sturdy. My friends' kids had them from babyhood, and they STILL use them, and they are 14 and 17 now!

It's this one.

We bought a knock-off of the Stokke called a "Hipposmile" which was only $90 but I don't think it's being marketed anymore (it seriously is identical, so I wouldn't be surprised if Stokke went after them for it). We didn't get ours until DD was 18mo so no bar or infant tray. She's still using it to sit at the table and she's 4 now.

There are tons of similar-but-not-identical knock-offs and most are cheaper. You might try looking at the Embassy chair (Overstock.com has some at the moment, $95 with tray and baby rail) , the Keekaroo (on Amazon), or the Euro II (onestepahead.com). Or try Craigslist... I see Stokke chairs on there for about $150 every couple weeks.

I am all about having Linus at the table with us when we eat as a family, but so often he eats before or after everyone and I need to be able to have somewhere to set him near me while I am working in the kitchen. I bought this on a big whim, as it isn't cheap, lol but so worth it. Woohoo!

ETA: We are using it with the baby rail and it is great.

3- Did you get the plastic tray thats made for it too-did you like it?

1- Did you get the infant attachment and did you feel this necesary? (Our DD is 6 months old)

We got it when DS1 was 12 months old, since we moved at that time. So no, we didn't purchase the infant attachment. For a baby under a year I would, though. With DS2 we debated whether or not to buy his own Tripp Trapp (since they can be used through childhood and even into adulthood-in fact, I grew up with a Tripp Trapp, and I remember using it at my desk when I was in High School.) We haven't decided on it yet, but I think we'll probably just use the one we have since they're so expensive. For now, DS2 is in an Ikea Antilp chair, which is cheaper than the Tripp Trapp attachment would have been anyway. We might buy him his own Tripp Trapp when he is a year old and doesn't need the attachment any more...or just let him inherit his brother's. We'll see.

2- Is this moveable from room to room or super heavy?

Not heavy at all. We frequently move it between the kitchen and dining room, and I sometimes use it as a stepladder in other rooms. (Yes, yes, yes, I know the warnings on the back say you're not supposed to...)

3- Did you get the plastic tray thats made for it too-did you like it?

Nope, no need. Do protect your table, though.

4- Oh and I suppose if you know of any magical secret for getting these for less than their inflated market price, this would be great too!

Hmmm...maybe Craigslist?
