Exemption for Army Reserves

My husband is in the reserves. He's at drill right now and just sent me a text that they are trying to force the H1N1 vax on everyone today. We managed to dodge the flu vax a few months back but I really need to get him an official exemption on file. We're in PA and it's been very easy for me to get the kids by with a simple letter. What can I do to get him out of this? He listed himself as atheist but the PA exemption covers a strong personal conviction similar to a religious belief.

Anyone military in PA that used an exemption for vaxing?

A military member must:

  • file a religious exemption, which will...
  • be vetted by the chaplain

even after an eternity of arguing for it, he would probably still be denied, and they will order him to comply.

Military members do not have the same options as civilians, or even dependents.

He just sent me another text. DH told his squad leader that he wasn't getting it and he said okay. No fuss, just checked him off. Niiiice

That is nice; it doesn't happen that way in active duty. I guess the guard is different .

That's nice... AF works differently I guess! Here it's take it or article 15.

I know this is a super old thread but I wanted to bring up the fact that without having all the vaccinations required the service member will not have a green status for deployment. Probably not a big concern as your DH is in the reserves (unsure of what branch) but National Guard Reserves do have their 2 weeks a year commitment which he may run into trouble with an Amber status. Hope you can find a work around if it ever comes up again.
