Best book about grain free?

What is the best book to read about the advantages of going grain free? What about a discussion of the pros and cons of adding things like almond flour?

Thanks!

I find Mark's Daily Apple really helpful. Check out this about grains: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/definitive-guide-grains/

Paleo eating sites have also really impacted my choice to go grain free. http://paleodiet.com/ Paleo nutrition/diet folks have the strongest argument (IMO) on why NOT to eat grains. Although reading stuff about the SCD and GAPS diets is what inspired me to go grain free in the first place. (_Gut and Psychology Syndrome_ by Natasha Campbell McBride was a great read IMO.)

Sorry, these are not all book recommendations. My favorite cookbook, which has a strong argument for going grain free (along w/ going pretty paleo as well) is _The Garden of Eating_. They discuss various hunter gatherer cultures and their food intake, their rates of cavities and diseases (taking lots of info from Weston Price's NaPD) and I think have a great argument for why grain free is a healthier way to be...

I mostly buy cookbooks personally, but enjoy _The Primal Blueprint_ (although I think you can get most of the info from the book on the Mark's Daily Apple site), and am longing to get my hands on Neanderthin. But I haven't bought/read _The Paleo Diet_ book, and Cordain's anti-fat stance is the reason. Although I believe it might have very compelling info on why to drop grains...

HTH!!

Hi, Beka! I was going to suggest Mark's Daily Apple as well. Just dropped in to say hello, mainly.

_Primal Body--Primal Mind_ is another I forgot. Very detailed science stuff--maybe not the first book I'd read on the subject.

_Good Calories, Bad Calories_ is one I see recommended a lot (from a more scientific angle). Detailed notes on it can be found here: http://higher-thought.net/2010/01/go...in-point-form/

This one looks interesting as well: http://www.amazon.com/Going-Against-.../dp/0658017225

(I've only read _Primal Body--Primal Mind_ of all these books, but just wanted to add them to this list in case they are helpful!)

There are also many SCD recipe books out there (like the _Grain Free Gourmet_) as well that are grain free--not detailing the *whys* of going grain free, but ideas for substitutions and recipes. I've found the ones I've seen to be really dairy heavy (esp cheese/yogurt heavy) which hasn't worked for us, (dairy free except for ghee) but could be great resources for others...

ETA: I forgot--if you're looking for recipes there is _The Almond Flour Cookbook_ by Elana Amsterdam of http://www.elanaspantry.com

I like the rationale for going grain-free presented on Kurt Harris' blog, PāNu.
