Pre-k in decatur ga that accepts SN children

Hi. My 4 yr old will be starting pre-k this fall, and I am looking for a school in the decatur area with a good reputation that takes children with ASD. He is PDD-Nos and needs to be in ST and OT but since I moved up here last June I have not found a place to take him, and now realized that if I want him to be in Pre-K in fall registration will be coming up.

He has only been in daycare for about 3 mos since he was born, and the only social interaction he has has been with his 2yo brother (who I will prob be needing to find daycare for). Last tested his IQ placed him around a year + behind...his speech has gotten better but everything else is still delayed and he is not completely potty trained. Can he even go to Pre-K.

I am so lost. I was trying to talk to the Marcus Center, but they blew me off, and I have been on bedrest (now hospital bedrest) for a month and a half now so I can't go up there and talk to anyone.

I don't know where else to look, I tried the bright from the start site, but there is a long list and no reviews.

Oh it also needs to be public. I am a single mom and there is no way I can afford private prices up here

you need to call your local elementary school and find out about getting him evaluated through the school system and getting him an IEP. That is how you will figure out if he needs to attend the special needs pre-k in the county, or if he can attend a public pre-k with a facilitator, which services he qualifies for, etc.

I dont know who my local elementary school is, it is so confusing, where I am from there was one, here there are like 18! Plus will he need to be evaluated again if his last eval is less than a year old?

Why is this so dang hard...Couple that with me being in the hospital and it makes it kinda impossible...*sigh*

was he evaluated through the school system? I am guessing no, if you don't even know which district you are in. he needs to be evaluated through the school system to see what he qualifies for, and have an IEP (individualized education plan) written.

just call any elementary school, or the dekalb county school administration, tell them where you live and they will know what school. http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/

If he is not potty-trained, he will most likely NOT be eligible for GA Pre-K. But he may qualify for the special needs Pre-K in your area (such as Easter Seals).

My SIL has special needs and when in doubt always call your local ARC. They can help steer you thru all the hoops to get services that your child is entitled to. They can help be an advocate when dealing with school systems.
Like PP said, I think you need to get him evaluated and designated within your school system.

I would just call your school district then. Are you in the city limits of Decatur?
