conceiving after a c/s

Hi ladies. I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but does anybody know how common it is to develop Asherman's syndrome after a cesarean? I've had 2 c/s, 3 homebirths, 1 c/s and am now looking to get pregnant later this year. I recently read a study that said 1 in 3 women will have trouble conceiving after a cesarean. That's scary!! Do you believe this? Just wondering if anyone had any advice on this topic. Thanks!!

I didn't have any problems conceiving #2, which happened 4-1/2 years after DD was born. This baby was conceived the first month we ttc'd, which is kind of funny considering that it took at least seven cycles to conceive DD.

I know adhesions can happen after a c-sec, but they can also happen after a D&C a miscarriage, etc. I also wonder how many are undiagnosed cases of endometriosis. My mom had adhesions removed after both her c-sections, and the explanation for them was that she'd had appendicitis when she was 2 and it left a lot of scar tissue (her appendix had burst by the time they got to the hospital). Looking back over her history, and because my sister had endo, we think the truth was that my mother had a really severe case of endo and not that it all resulted from the appendicitis.

I've had four c-sections, and didn't have any problems conceiving the last three. Now, we have been trying for almost a year and a half, with no success. I have actually had 5 major abdominal surgeries b/c I had an exploratory laparotomy and was sick with sepsis when my youngest was a yr old, so I honestly think that may have more to do with my fertility than the sections.

I have never heard of Asherman's until now, but am reading a couple links now, so thanks.

Best of luck TTC.

I've heard that c-sections can affect fertility and the rate of miscarriage and stillbirth in subsequent pregnancies, but I don't have the stats/numbers in front of me.

In my case, I conceived my first with no difficulty on my first attempt, and ended up with an "emergency" c-section. It then took me over three years of trying to get pregnant again...and I lost that one, and the next one, 7.5 months later. I finally got pregnant again 2 years later (an "oops" - but one I was thrilled by) and miscarried again.

I conceived dd1, ds2 and my angel, Aaron Ambrose, each on the first attempt. They were all c-sections. It took me three months to conceive dd2.

So...I don't know. I do know that, for me, I went from someone who conceived with no difficulty whatsoever, to someone who took a decade to have my second baby - all after a c-section.
