Hi,

My DD (8 mo soon) is going to get a doll from her uncle (my brother) and he told me to pick any of the dolls from toysRUs....

...there are so many. Help me pick please.

Does it have to be from toysrus?
I love some of the plain waldorf style dolls you see around, like on Etsy etc.

But if it had to be from there, I like this one.

I'd go for one as simple as possible, made of cloth and with minimal facial features to allow the baby to use her imagination!

From what is available at Toys R Us, I would go with almost any corolle doll.

I did this one for my daughter's first doll:

and she still plays with it. I also have 'invested' in two goregous custom dolls from Joy's Waldorf Dolls, but am sad to say that they spend a lot of time just sitting around looking lovely and waldorfy, as my daughter would rather play with her corolle doll anyday.

Happy doll shopping!!!

My kids are rather fond of their Baby Stella doll ... it looks like ToysRUs carries a couple of those at least.

i would say definitely NOT an 'interactive' doll!

and less plasticy is good... i saw a ragady-ann doll which might be a good choice but if you think your LO might want something a little more realistic for for something simple and as much made out of cloth as possible. plastic dolls are are 'cold' and unrealistic but they also don't make for good sleeping mates unlike a nice squishy cloth doll.

Thank you all.... I gave him some suggestions based on your input and will wait to see what my DD will get

I checked out some Waldorf dolls on etsy. Am a little baffled - what seems to be the appeal here? Why are they so expensive?

Hi! I don't mean to butt in here, but I just saw your post and thought I could try and answer your questions.

Waldorf dolls are made from clean carded pure wool batting and cotton interlock skin. The yarn hair is also made from natural fibers, such as wool, alpaca or mohair. The wool inside the doll warms when you hug it and returns that warmth so it give the feeling of being alive. You really need to see and hold a Waldorf doll in person to "get it".

The all natural materials that these dolls are made from, are pricey to begin with and then when you consider the time to make each one, the cost seems more reasonable. I can take up to a week to make a complete 18" doll with an outfit. So the amount I make on each one is much less than minimum wage. It's truly a labor of love. When I see the reaction that a child has to one of my creations, when they bond to the doll and establish a loving relationship with it, it makes my work worthwhile.
