10 day + long period?

hi all,

my 13 yo dd just told me that her period has been going on for 10 days. apparently it seemed like it had stopped yesterday, but started up fairly heavy again today. she started menstruating last year, with fairly "normal" length and intervals. she doesn't use tampons, and doesn't have any cramps or fever. what could be going on? is it something to worry about? I told her if she's still bleeding on Monday, I'm making an appointment to see our GP, but til then I'm waiting and wondering. FYI, she's a big (5'9", 150 lb) girl, overall pretty healthy, but has had a cough/cold for about a week, if that might have any impact.

I would call the doctor. If you stalk my posts you will find a thread that I started about the same thing and there is a lot of helpful info in there from the ladies here.

Thanks, bunnyflakes. I read through some of your pp's and found the thread you were talking about - lots of interesting info. My daughter has had some blood work done and shown some insulin resistance, so I think that this, unfortunately, might be connected. . . Kind of worrisome, but I don't want her to think so! She's still just a kid, really. And I'm certainly not ready to have her start taking bc, so I hope this figures itself out or we can find another way to solve it. Glad to hear yours finally stopped! If anyone else has info to share re: long periods, and possible connections to insulin resistance, please share! I want to help my baby girl avoid any unnecessary pain/stress/worry. Thank you!
