American Girl dolls - Page 3

One of the kids at the dance lessons is really into these. (Is it awful that this is one time I'm thrilled dd id a little tomboy and has no interest in dolls? LOL!) She's a single mom and while she does ok, spending $100 every bday and Christmas for a doll is a bit much for her. I don't think she's ever paid over $40 for one and can always find them through Craigslist or eBay. Also, since she's looking forward to getting cash from her grandma, maybe it would be good to mention to other family that while she appreciates gifts, she's saving up for this and would like a little cash to put towards it.

You mentioned that dd is having a birthday party- is there a tactful way to ask the guests to give her dollars instead of trinkets so she can save more for what she really wants? If someone is going to give her a 5.00 gift, that 5.00 would help her reach her goal of getting a doll, rather than adding another trinket to the toy collection. Ten people at 5.00 would put her halfway there. I didn't do big parties, so don't know what current etiquette is. Is there a nice way to word such a thing- ie- Dd is saving for an AG doll and would be grateful for any help in meeting her goal . Even if somene was sending a card, a card can cost 3.00 or more. A homemade card with the 3.00 would be fine. Forgive me if this is too tacky.
