ecofriendly, economical, allergy-friendly window coverings

Anyone have suggestions? We need something to cover some huge oddly shaped windows in our bedroom (currently naked). I like cellular shades but I don't think they are any of the above.

I would do curtains in the washable fabric of your choice. Take 'em down & wash them periodically to deal with the allergies.

Or you could try bamboo blinds - but blinds imo are a pita to clean. And I have my doubts about the ecofriendliness level of bamboo as much of it is growing in areas it is not indigenous to & chokes out everything native to the area.

I second the idea for fabric. I'm using some hemp curtains I bought from RawGanique -- a company in Canada. I think if you google hemp curtains it should come up. They weren't cheap, but they are hypoallergenic, very pretty, and easy to wash. I think they should last for a long time.

allergy friendly - something that can get washed, preferably in hot water to kill dust mites. Or else a hard surface to wipe off, but even wood blinds have so many nooks and crannies, and I'm sure the finish would offgas like any other wood finish.

So, sheets - you can get lots of patterns, they'll hold up well, you can get organic if you really want ecofriendly, or used from the thrift store....

the hemp shower curtain I had had a rough weave that would hold dust pretty well - I might stick with sheets, myself.

And since sheets are already hemmed and edged, they are easy to work with - minor sewing, or you can even just drape them over a rod in half if that suits the window.
