Does anybody grind grains with the attachment? How well does it work? I believe there are three different levels of mixers.....if I get the cheapest one am I going to be missing out? There was a sale going on for the biggest one that went for about $250 the middle one ended up being more than the biggest one....so it is really between the cheapest one and the biggest one.

I really liked my KitchenAid stand mixer - I was sad when I had to leave it behind when we moved from a country with a different electrical voltage standard. I used a 5 qt., 325 W motor, tilt-head and it was fantastic for basic baking. I'm looking to replace it. I don't think I will get the model with the bigger bowl and motor, because I don't think I need it.

I didn't try the grind attachment, which is purchased separately, so I'll be interested in what people have to say about it.

I haven't used the KA grain mill attachment, but when I was researching grain mills, they didn't get many good reviews. I ended up with a NutriMill which I love.

I haven't used the grinder (nor do I have any other attacthments besides the things it comes with), but I LOVE my KA!! I've had it for about a year now, and I'll be honest, I was somewhat worried I wouldn't use it much. But I use it all the time, and it really makes so many things soo much easier - especially with two little ones running around. I just put stuff in there, and let it mix. SO easy!! Makes great muffins, cookies, pie crust, tortillas, bread (though I haven't made bread in a while... just don't have the time...) etc and even great meatballs!!

I remember the reviews not being good either. I have the big KA & I do love it. I believe that the reviews said that using the grain mill attachment put too much stress on the motor & it burned out quickly. I'm saving up for a NutriMill as well.

the kitchenaide grain attachments IS NOT a good reason to invest in the whole unit. I have a nutrimil which is fabulous but I don' t use it much either. If you are looking to grind a lot of grain and need a single use machine the later is the way to go IMO

Oh, I very much agree with madamedelbosque though--grain attachment aside, the KA is a worthy investment. I use mine ALL. THE. TIME. Used it twice yesterday for cookies and pizza dough. Getting off here in a second to start a batch of bread.

Yea, me too. I used mine twice today...I use it atleast once a day, now. I'm constantly making some sort of bread, muffin, dough, and love the KA. I also have a VitalMill (by the makers of nutril mill -- it is a cheaper version of that...) and LOVE it. I usually use it several times a week. There is a great deal on this here: http://kodiakhealth.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id/3948
